Tabs Refresh Automatically in Safari 5.1?

Why do tabs automatically refresh in Safari 5.1?

Try this: Have at least ten websites in different tabs in the same window. Go to "Reset Safari..." in the "Safari" menu. Uncheck the "Close all Safari windows" and then click "Reset". What the **** Apple.

Also, the spinning beach ball of death does not appear when I move the mouse to the bookmark bars or toolbar. Why?

It seems a wee bit more erratic, I never had Java enabled bus still was having the issue ... I removed ClickToFlash & AdBlock ... the issue was gone.

I loaded the memory with pooh to force Safari to swap, nothing, I also re-installed the add-ons ... the issue isn't back. I've been runing at 20 MB free (over 2GB) for a few days now the machine is sluggish but no tab refresh.

The last time I rebooted it was Jul 21 08:57:58 the day I updated Safari.

The issue is back. It usually follows a visit to http://www.independent.co.uk/ . The page takes forever to display, the fans are going 100% & the beach ball is there most of the time.

Once the page is loaded ... flipping through the other tabs triggers the refresh, which was not the case just before visiting the page.

So there might be something buggy in the way Safari handles that particular page.

Same issue. Pain in the butt. Also some times I click back and nothing ever shows up so I have to refresh that page to get anything to show up. Otherwise I just have a white screen. Seems to happen a lot on Google, which may be a problem with that website. But yeah the random refresh all the pages and then the Force Reload box that forces you to reload all the pages that pops up every once in awhile is annoying too. Mostly just posting to add to the complaints.

I'm having the same problem - on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1 however it only seems to have happened since I swapped out my original 4GB RAM for 8GB RAM from OWC early this week. The ram upgrade is possibly unrelated.

I hate the fact it resets all the work I've done typing a reply (like this), or logs me out of a website.

I realize the weird refreshes on Lion's Safari not only reloads the tabs...they totally kill downloads that are ongoing every once in a while too (it became quite a pain when my downloads are almost done and then the reloadings kill every single download at a go). Switching to Chrome soon. It bugs me too much. 😠

For what it's worth, it's happening to me even on tabs **that are active**.

For example, when I began typing this very reply, I had literally typed "For wh" and then suddenly I was back at the Apple Discussions "Log In" page! The tab / page into which I was typing was reloaded right in front of me!

I'm running: Safari 5.1 (6534.50), 10.6.8 (10K549), MacBookPro8,2. I have NO extensions. None. Java is off. JavaScript is on (because try doing anything these days without JavaScript).

It's happened to me just like this on many other web apps... BMC Remedy my best example. I've had to re-create a huge amount of data because I've had to re-enter it when the page refreshed while I was actively typing into a form field.

This did NOT happen under the version of Safari previous to this. (I forget what version that was... 5.0?) I started noticing it as soon as I upgraded to Safari 5.1.

Also - I'm a bit of an unusual case. Right now I have 21 open windows with a total of 162 tabs. Again, this was NOT a problem under the previous version of Safari.

Stefan, I too can have a lot of tabs open, and now that I went back to Safari 5.05 (via the 10.6.8 Combo download), it's back to working just fine, as is the autofill, which was driving me crazy in 5.1, what were they thinking at Apple! As I've said before, the first time I called Apple, a higher-tiered tech guy told me they were aware of all these bugs, & were working on a revised update, ASAP. But two weeks later, wondering where it was, aonther higher-level tech guy said they had no reports of 5.1 causing anyone problems! I was pretty ticked, and sad they would try to simply ignore what's evident to so many, & pretend all is well....

I find Chrome to be of little use, as it runs up a lot of memory use as well, not as bad as Safari 5.1, but worse than 5.05, which I'll use till Apple fixes Safari...

Hey guys, I don't want to offend anyone, but ... do you guys have patience or read popups?

If a tab takes too long to reload, it whines about it and gives a pop-up. There is a warning in it. If you click to stop loading, you are actually killing the WebKit process, and all tabs need to be refreshed.

I know it's anoying, and Safari has the habbit to freak out from time to time (beachball), but if you look at the process, you see that it is still doing stuff. Give it 5, 10, 15 minutes, whatever it needs, and so far (been doing this for 2 months), it always came back ok. Just don't click the pop-up.
