Problem with Mail (Lion)

Hi.

Since installing Lion yesterday, I can't get my main mail address working.

Message is in French, but it says someting like "The server sent the error back. The POP server (here, my server name) doesn't manage the authentication Password. Please check your account settings and try again".

Strange enough, I had not change a thing on my settings, so the problem must come from Lion. I still can get my mails on the iPad and on the iPhone (with the same settings!).

I contacted my web domain agent, but they say I'm not the only one with this problem and that it comes from Apple and Mai.

Any idea?

Mail is no fun. I get something different each time I open it. Today, I got a call from my secretary saying that all quotation marks, colons, semi-colons, etc. were changed to boxes or question marks. After about three experiments with different texts, I put the wording into a text document and sent her that as an attachment.

Earlier, the little slash-ball ran round and round as if trying to send email I composed. Apparently some of it did go out, as I received responses, but most of it still shows up in my draft box as the wheel goes round.

I have received messages that indicate my user name and password are wrong or the ISP isn't responding.

This last time, as I opened Mail, sent a test message that set the send ball spinning, I received a message that Mail was unable to move 2546 (or so) messages to the trash. Yikes!

Solutions for Mail problems seem to be hit and miss at best. I used mail for at least a week before these problems showed up, which I find a bit odd as well. No, not other software has been added.

I stopped using Safari because it couldn't seem to find the video player/audio player. Firefox was able to so I have been using it, until today, when a similar, "You don't have a video player installed" message popped up.

Come on Apple....back to work!

I've got the same problem as 60wpm - but no solutions yet!

Some messages display the sender's name & title of message in the summary column, but the only thing that appears in the message pane is "Loading". It never loads though, no matter how long I wait.

Doesnt apply to every message - some appear perfectly. It does seem to affect messages which use a lot of graphics, but again not them all!

If anyone has managed to sort this problem I'd love to hear the answer too!

As mentioned in my first post in this thread: "I like the post above, by zappled,' so I did that; deleted my mail accounts, set them up again, from scratch and since then have not had the problem mentioned above.

But this does not mean it will work for everyone although it seemed that Mail had 'blanked out' some setting I had for pop and smtp.

And although this next thought may be of little or no comfort now I have come to know that Apple will fix things and make them better; also I've discovered that it is not always 'Apple's fault,' but like our computers can get infected by virus so too connections and links can get as messed up and mangled as an old fashioned phone switchboard managed by the Three Stooges. A fresh start can help a lot. (Although time consuming, all important data needs to be backed up, usernames, passwords, serial numbers need to be handy, etc.).

Lion strikes me as a beautiful improvement that will only get better. And if you really want to avoid kinks and stutters then it would be wise not to be a beta tester or jump on the first version of anything new.

Some of us, though, like to take things apart to see if we can put 'em back together again, like to see what happens when the rug gets pulled out from under the past; like to tear down the old and enjoy the puzzle of putting the pieces back together; and these types of challenges are what we expect.

I have been having problems with Lion Mail for several days now. It worked great from the get-go, until recently. Then I started having problems sending mail, holding on to passwords and that spinning ball in "send". It will not stop spinning. I've narrowed it down to a problem with MobleMe, but I don't know how to fix it. I've deleted the smtp server from the preference list and made a new one, but that didn't work. The ball/wheel just keeps spinning as if trying to send mail. As nearly as I can tell, all the mail has been sent, though.

I am also having issues - have the new MBA for almost 2 weeks now. I primarily use a MobileMe account, with Gmail forwarding to my @me address. Yesterday I noticed that my messages stopped being sent, and the hash circle just kept spinning as though trying to send, and would eventually time out saying that the server was unavailable. I was still receiving messages, however. I checked the 'connection doctor' and it showed no problems with MobileMe. I'm sure this is a Lion problem, as I am able to send mail via the same account set up on both my old mac (not upgraded to Lion) and my iPod touch. I just tried deleting the account & adding it again, but that didn't solve the problem. Any ideas?

I deleted all my mail accounts and "started over" (iMac - Lion). And it seems to have cleared up the problem. I deleted them last night and let it sit overnight, then added my e-mail accounts this morning. One at a time. So far no problem, except the usual keychain problems with hanging on to the passwords, intermently and with no apparent reason.

Like some here, I have all my e-mail accounts synced on my iPhone and an older PowerBook G4, and neither of those have any of the problems I'm seeing in Lion Mail. I also have Thunderbird installed on an Ubuntu on an older computer, that has no problems with e-mail accounts at all.

So, this is a huge problem, as far as I'm concerned. The mail app in Lion is really quite buggy and should be patched soon, I hope.

Been experiencing this problem since I upgraded to Lion and to say it's annoying is something of an understatement.

Mail seems to work for several days without issue, until suddenly it stops sending. No apparent issues with either the web version of MobileMe or using the same account on my iPhone 4 and no issues when I previously used Snow Leopard.

The only 'fix' I've found to work - and I've tried most of them - is to delete my MobileMe account from Mail, closing Mail and then readding it.

I had the same problem and finally deleted all mail accounts and shut down. After I regained my sense of calm, I started up the Mac, opened Mail and let it set itself up. In other words, I didn't "add account." So my Mail reads my mac.com mobile me accouts and seems to send without difficulty. I had to go to other accounts and re-enter some passwords; for example, when sending an e-mail from iPhoto.

I do have one other account I use, and on one computer I did add it after things seemed to be running ok, and so far so good.

After 5 days since installtion of lion all my problems have disapeared. I tried every day to wotk with mail and it failed. The same happend with Outlook. I installed Thunderbird and Firefox to help me out. Suddenly mail worked as well as Safira by suprise. I deleted the user/Library/Mail folder and mail started and worked. Then I reinstalled the backup from time machine and did a reimport - since that day I had no problems anymore. My suggestion is let the system run 48 hours so that all the new indexing and databases are moved to the new Lion format. Then everything is working. It could have somtehing to do with the removal of the non Intel and 32 bit staff out of Lion.
