Upgraded to iTunes 10.4 & can not rearrange music anymore

I have been reading all over the web about how some are having problems with iTunes. Particularly the changing music list around in a playlist.

I was prompted to upgrade iTunes and now some features have disappeared.

My main problem is that I can not longer rearrange the songs my playlists. The "grab & drop" feature seems to be gone or disabled.

Some other blogs and help sites have suggested:

• Turning off a shuffle feature <<< Shuffle is not a feature that is indicated on any of my playlists. Checked each playlist anyway.>>>

• Clicking in the left top are of the bar (with the check symbole, name, time, artist, etc...) <<<Clicking the number order just makes the list order from 1- 50 go backwards from 50 to 1. Or changing Name or Artist (or such) just changes the order per that criteria.>>>

• Right clicking (or holding the control button). <<<Right clicking shows a drop down menu where you can manually Add to another playlist" option, but no unlocking any type of "grab & drop" feature.>>>

I was able to add music to my playlists, but after than nothing.

I tried created a new playlist and carefully adding music. This way *****!

The only drag I can do is taking a playlist (in the left side bar) and placing it in a playlists folder. But in Smart Playlists or regular ones, all music order is permanent, it seems.

This can NOT be the future for itunes! Anyone else having this problem and can offer some suggestions?

Well, other than disabling iTunes and using an earlier version. 🙂

I've been trying more and I found the real problem/solution I think.

When I apply only the slightest pressure, barely touching the pen to the Wacom tablet, iTunes lets me click and drag stuff around !

It doesn't seem to matter what hardness the Wacom driver is set to, but you basically have to apply NO PRESSURE with the pen to pick stuff up, then apply whatever pressure to move stuff around.

EDIT scratch that it worked for all of 30 minutes then stopped working again, so I think it's a buggy Wacom driver.

Another work around I found was setting one of the Wacom pen buttons to middle-click, then select the tracks you want to move, press the pen onto the tablet and with the pen down press the middle-click button.

Thanks for the middle clcik idea! This is working with my pen and intuous 4.

You only have to find the right speed to do it and the only way i get it working is when i drag the song straight to the left - not up or down - simply to the left and than where the playlists are i can go up and down with it!!

at last this works most of the times - other than that the right click does bring up the whole menue and i can move it to the playlist over there.

As everyone else mentioned it's an iTunes/Wacom conflict. The question is, who fixes this? Personally, I don't think it's Waom, considering it Wacom tablets have worked just fine with iTunes prior to the 10.4 update. Which means Apple messed something up in iTunes causing it to conflict with Wacom tablets. Hopefully they fix this soon. Very annoying. But I no longer hold my breath these days for Apple to fix anything. They've released a 10.4.1 update but makes no mention of a fix for the Wacom issue. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1426 Can anyone confirm if this recent update has fixed it? I just don't update unless I REALLY need to. Good thing I haven't updated in the last 3 versions of iTunes at home. Why update when everything works just fine. ;-) Just *** at work. However, another work around is copy and paste from one playlist to another. You still have to use the 2 button workaround to move the file where you want it in selected playlist.

I'm using a Wacom tablet and have had the same frustrating problem. However, while waiting for the software companies to iron this out, I found a simple solution that works easily while still using my Wacom.

Instead of draging the songs around, simply hi-light the song or album you want to move and copy (command+C) then paste it (command+V) wherever you would normally drag it. It's as simple as that!

I'm so glad I found this page! I was going nuts thinking "Why can't I drag these songs onto my iPhone manually??" I read the article, and fortunately, I always keep a mouse on standby, but the Wacom tablet and pen are almost a requirement for me, with my physical challenges. I tried the mouse, and it works, but can't find the Wacom mouse... must be in the packing boxes...

Kinda lame, and makes me think I will NOT buy another Wacom tablet if it doesn't work like this old one used to: Perfectly!

Same problem here.

  • When I use my Wacom pen I get shaking scroll bars which make the contect of the window shake when I watch anything in list view. Drag and drop to rearrange apps from my connected iPhone/iPag works but the icon of an app becomes invisble which makes rearranging a little harder.
  • There's no shaking and icons stay visible when I use my Apple mouse.
