Unfortunately I have the same problem. Anyone got a solution?
Same problem as well. I guess Apple is going to have to come out with a lion supported version.
Just quit the installer and open the PKG file with Pacifist. I only had to extract the application into the /Applications/Utilities folder. All other files that get installed to /System/Library were still present on the system.
So far, I found no issues while using the iPhone Configuration Utility on my Lion machine.
There is a much simpler solution to the problem than manually extracting the PKG file.
The problem is, that the installer checks for a running iTunes before it proceeds. This is done with the following command:
/bin/ps -e | /usr/bin/grep -v grep | /usr/bin/grep "/Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes"
Unfortunately, this also matches to the iTunes Helper process which is running in background. So, to be able to install the iPhone configuration Utility on OS X Lion, one simply has to quit the iTunes Helper process using Activity Monitor.
The Xcode 4.1 install has the same problem. Here is Apple's recommendation http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3945
