I found the answer to all our Qmaster problems. Adobe Media Encoder CS5. No set up problems or cluster that disappear and never work right it just always works. It automatically uses all 16 cores in my Mac and it is very fast. Apple needs to do a better job on their software. The old Apple "just works" is not true anymore. I like FCPX much better than Adobe Premiere, but if this Apple software glitches continue I will switch and be done with it. Give it a try.

Hello, Warwick,

I would like to let you know that this problem appeared on my MacBook Pro this morning and I tried everything I could, including the latest version of Digital Rebellions Compressor Repair Utility. I am running OS X 10.0.9 (Mavericks), Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.7, Compressor 4.0.7, Motion 5.0.7 on a MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012 with a 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory, and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024MB Graphics Card, and until I found your post, nothing worked, but your solution worked beautifully, and my computer is purring like a kitten! Thank you so much for your help! I was worried that I was going to have to spend $799 for AppleCare Video support, but thanks to you, I can spend the money on better things. One strange thing that I noticed in working on this problem is that when I open the System Preferences app Qmaster is nowhere to be found, and on the other MacBook Pro that I am also using and has a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, and the same memory, Qmaster is visible in the system preferences. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks again,

Louis Reed

Hi Lous, glad to have helped. As I've mentioned many times on these forums, you DONT need a 3rd party app (ISV) to fix or workaround some of these issues. I'm glad you didnt follow the "reinstall again 'sheep'..".. 🙂

As you're running Mavericks 10.9, may I suggest you simply either:

  • enable the ~/library (+j) tick inhome directory and reveal the ~/library for your refernce or
  • siply make a favourite of the ~/library/applications support in the finder sidebar

so that you can get in quickly and purge these "Apple Qmaster" directories then fire up and cusomise the Cluster share options via Compressor.app

ah yes to your note, you can simply administer Qmaster from the Compressor.app. Ye olde system prefs/apple qmaster dissappeared after compressor V4 came out with FCPX in 2011 I recall.

Also get in ther and clean our the savedstate infor for compressor.app too (works well for FCPX when it the UI gliches as it used too).

Yes for the usual Qmaster issues such as:

  1. cluster volume doesn't appear for mounting
  2. greyed out submit button cluster name(s) s dont appear in submit list box dialogue
  3. jobs wont start after submittion
  4. other cluster nodes dont' show up in cluster (va Qmaster Adminstrator
  5. service nodes wont shw up in Qmaster Administrator
  6. compressor history some sometimes fails (gets buggered up)
  7. .. lots more.

simply purge this ~/librray/Application Support/Apple Qmaster/ structure and fire up compressor.app again and set it.. 99% fixes these issues. Do the same on pther nodes.

I'm speculating soem added fucntion to Compressor wi the FCPX 10.1 update very soon. Hopefully a little less fickle for us creatives to work with! 😉
