Disk not ejected properly

After installing Lion yesterday I keep getting a window popping up from time to time with the red excllamation point saying the disk was not ejected properly.

But at no time had I disconnected anything. Just woring on the iMac.

There doesn't seem to be a way to find out what supposed drive/disk was ejected.

Any ideas or anyone else seeing this or know how to figure out what disk/drive the error message is referring to?

I have been fighting this for about two years.

It basically comes down to "Apple has no idea of what is causing it".

I have EXTENSIVELY tried to solve it, including but not limited to, substituting a new external HD.

Very disappointed with this situation.

So check this out. My MacBook Pro was broken, but the hard drive was good, so I yanked the hard drive and put it into a case as an external drive, which allowed me to keep all of my data. I plugged it into the USB HUB that I have attached to my Mac Mini and it works fine. I bought a new MacBook Air and plugged it directly into the computer and I get the "Disk Not Ejected Properly" message and it disconnects as soon as it connects. I go back to the Mac Mini USB Hub and it works fine. Figure that one out! Both running the same OS but the USB Hub allows it to work and the direct connection to the MacBook Air it doesn't work.

Based on all of the posts I've read most peolpe think it's their cable or the software or the drive, but it is something else.

OK - I have two (customer) Macs here, MacBook Pro & MacBook Air both running Mavericks latest 10.9.4

MacBook Pro connects and talks to external SATA (USB bridge) 500Gb drive. Eject (properly!) from MacBook Pro, plug into MacBook Air which repeatedly disconnects and reconnects the drive, complaining that "disk not ejected properly"

On this basis, MacBook Air is faulty.

I have an external hard drive that I plug into one of the USB ports that I use for Time Machine backup, and I keep getting the same error message when I wake it from sleep. I have scanned through the posts and some people have mentioned that, when you put a Mac to sleep it puts all of the external hard drives to sleep, thus causing the error message. I don't really get the error message while I'm working, not that I can remember, anyways. So, I think I'm going to try to disconnect the external hard drive when I either put it to sleep, or when I shut it down, and see if that will stop the error messages.

Hi All,

Very disappointed in Apple.

Considering the amount of money we pay for equipment and their excellent help disk when I go into their shop.

Also, just ordered a new apple MAC Air and it is sent from Shanghai?? What with that are our people in Australia not capable?? Wait I know, its slave labour from what I hear from my colleagues in China.

Also disappointed in your delivery people you use here in Australia.

R&D please get your thinking caps out, we pay a lot of money for Apple equipment and this is actually happening with my current Yosemite latest software.

I did eject and then connected my drive and it worked, but should work every insertion of my external drive. It actually happened as I'm writing this. I was beginning to think its my drive, but thank God for forums like this.

Apple your a disgrace, considering the mount of profits you store offshore to avoid tax???

Very disappointed.
