Lion a battery hog?

I am also encountering the same issue on 2008 macbook pro.I even wasted 150 euro on a new battery.I am only getting 3 hrs when i should be getting over 5.Seriously apple loads of people complaining at this stage.You have to acknowledge this serious issue and fix it.No more pretending you have never heard of the problem everytime i ring customer care.😠

Hi, I was able to solve my reported problem of securityd taking 80+% cpu (thus consuming a lot of battery) by doing the following things:

- Update to 10.7.1

- Logged in: Finder: Go To Folder ~/Library/Caches

- Move every file in the Caches folder to the trash

- Reboot, Re-Login

- Empty the Trash

- Finder: Go To Folder ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData (make sure Mail is quitted!)

- Move the files Envelope Index, Envelope Index-shm, Envelope Index-wal to the Trash

- Open Mail - say Continue when it wants to "Import messages" (at the end of the process everything will be ok, don't be scared by the import message)

When Mail was finished, it all came back to normal. Note that this was a trial-and-error method, so no scientific cause/effect study behind it - just a few assumptions. I might have been just lucky. In any way, it won't harm anything, and in my case it helped.

Battery life is now around 4 Hrs, which is *not* the 6 my MBP used to have a few months ago, but it might take the Graphics update reported in this thread and a recycling to get things back to old normal state.

For the interim time, I can only recommend using the utility gfxCardStatus to switch your MBP manually to the

Integrated Card.

Mission control is cool; but when you can't have multiple things open - what is the use of Mission Control? I can't watch a Netflix movie on a full charge. And a full charge only gives me 94% and barely 2 hours. Very disappointed and I am huge mac fan.

In around 1 and a half hours, from 100% I go down to around 30% or lower. :/

For those with securityd using high CPU unexplicably, there is a seprate forum discussion. I had a problem after upgrading to Lion where securityd kept running with high CPU usage and I tried all suggestions. This ran my battery down so quickly. I finally reinstalled Lion from fresh and restored my data. My MPB is running very well now and a number of other issues also dissapeared like my trackpad settings not saving. Things seem to go wrong with the upgrade. Lion is a major upgrade and it is worth considering a fresh install if nothing else works.

The battery hog is caused by LION - we are just waiting for a fix

I too am experiencing this. I have an original aluminum unibody Macbook, 6GB ram, 320GB/7200 RPM drive.

Since upgrading to Lion, I began to notice reduced battery life. Thinking that it was old age (as I was still using the original battery and charger), I went out about 3 weeks ago, and bought a new replacement battery, and also purchased a new Magsafe charger.

As I am typing this, with screen brightness at 50%, my battery has dropped 14% percentage points in the last 25 minutes (from 62% to 48%).

The other thing that I have noticed is that the battery percentage meter never reads 100% any more when fully charged. Usually 98% to 99%, but never 100% any more.

I recently downgraded back to 10.6.8. It appears to have fixed my poor battery life issue when I was running 10.7...

Battery life has been restored (very little drain in sleep mide and much better life in use). The system is noticeably peppy, and spinning beach balls are gone too. Going to stay at 10.6.8 until the community overwhelmingy gives Lion a "thumbs up".....

Yes i also downgraded my battery is back to normal and cpu is running at normal tempature no longer at 60 to 70c.By the time it's working fine with our machines they will be dead or they'll be launching osx black dragon or something lol!

I have a late 2011 MBP 15" with the discrete graphics card. I have definitely noticed the weak battery life despite trying all of the tricks such as

low screen brightness,

no keyboard back light,

using integrated graphics card only (with gfxstatus),

using sleep whenever possible,

resetting SMC,

resetting PRAM,

applying all updates almost as soon as they come out,

etc.

My MBP came with Lion preinstalled, so I have never been able to compare it against SL performance.

My battery charges quickly (within 1.5 hours with minimal use starting from about ~10% charge), but drains VERY quickly (within ~2 hours or so) when running off of battery. I am not doing anything power or graphics intensive. I have not noticed any difference between the default "Dynamic Switching" of the graphics cards, or using the integrated card only. I made a few calls to Apple Support and a visit to the Genius Bar. Neither was able to help me on this issue. Officially, this is an unrecognized problem. I was told that computers with Lion preinstalled probably wouldn't work at all if I attempted to remove Lion and install SL. The Lion updates I install have had no impact as far as I can tell.

However, I did get in touch with a specialist at Apple (who, I've been told, are at a technically more proficient level than that of a typical customer service rep) who contacted me about this issue. We spoke over the phone, and he had me do a few diagnostic tests back in Nov 2011. The log files from those tests were emailed to him the same day. Unfortunately, I haven't heard from him since despite multiple attempts at reconnecting in order to check up on how things were going. In short, Apple does know about the problem at the technical side. However, I don't know if anything is actually being done about it.

I have also been invited to test out Mountain Lion last week, but have declined for now. Before being a guinea pig, I had a few questions but was not able to reach a Apple specialist to answer them.

I'm probably not contributing something that hasn't been said before, but thought I'd let everyone know of what I've learned during this journey... If anyone has any more information - technical, legal, or whatever - I'd appreciate it!
