I am having problems importing playlists in iTunes 10.4

I want to confirm this issue, I'm using Windows 7 32 bit with iTunes 10.4.

I was able to import local m3u playlists (winamp is my primary music player due to small footprint) into iTunes fine before upgrading to 10.4, so I tried uninstalling iTunes 10.4 and installed 10.2.2 instead. Playlists importing works again with older version, so I suppose this is either issue of 10.4 or Apple no longer allows m3u playlists importing.

Update:

Under Lion with iTunes 10.4 importing m3u playlist also doesn't work.

I'm also having this problem with iTunes 10.4 64-bit on Windows 7 64-bit. playlists and media files are located on a network share accessed via UNC pathnames (\\machine\share\...), though it doesn't look as if that is necessarily relevent.

Given the problem exists in Lion as well looksto me like this is a fundamental bug in iTunes 10.4.

Just saw this in another thread. Same issue here, but music is local. Can't export playlist from PC to Mac. PC was on 10.2.2 (didn't work) and upgraded to 10.4 and no luck either.

Ever since the latest update, I cannot import CDs into iTunes. I have a 2TB HD which has plenty of space. I've been re-ripping my collection in Apple Lossless and the CD will rip the first couple of tracks and then on the 3rd or 4th, it will freeze before it ever finishes "importing". The CD eventually stops spinning. If I manually rip track by track, they do save to the library music folder, but they don't show up in iTunes. If I try to manually import them from the saved files, nothing happens.

Then iTunes isn't "frozen" per se, but I can't close it without using Task Manager.

FIX THIS, APPLE!!!

Just want to chime in myself. I am also having issues with iTunes 10.4 and a failure to import files from a M3U playlist. My issue is that iTunes seems to inport the playlist, but not the files, or at least it doesn't add the files to my library. I have been using the M3U import feature as a shortcut to add multiple files. (yes I know I can import a folder. Without going into details, I find fault with that function.) With the latest update that has apparently been disabled. So, I just want to add my voice to the list of those who think this *****. Please bring back or replace the multiple file import feature.

Nevermind. I dumped 10.4 and went back to 10.3.1. APPLE take note.

Ah. So I may be able to import my custom playlists again if I reverse upgrade to iTunes 10.3.1. That's good news. I would get rid of my iPhone otherwise.

They broke the iPhone Voice Memos app with a previous iPhone OS update. I'm beginning to think I shouldn't install Apple updates.

Same ***** here just rolled back from 10.4 to 10.3.1.35 and the M3U playlists now import perfectly. This really is a very elementary programmimg mistake I would say Apple are trying hard to increase profits where they have let all the good programmers go and now employ chimps discarded from an animal testing station that are all fecked up on aspartame and chanel.

No improvement with v10.4.1.10 (at least win7 32bit version) ... good job apple

Meanwhile, here is an annoying workaround:

use browser-like links: change "\" to "/" e.g. song "D:\mymusic\track01.mp3" is "file:///D:/mymusic/track01.mp3" in M3U file

First-off, this seems to be a general problem with 10.4 (across all the operating systems of which I am aware). Unfortunately, I cannot provide a permanent solution but, if you need a quick fix, this will (hopefully) work for you.

For some inexplicable reason, iTunes no longer recognises standard Windows paths. For example:

Y:\Music\Buddy Holly\Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3

The end result is that it will import a playlist with no content.

It will, however, recognise the equivalent Apple paths which look like this:

file://localhost/Y:/Buddy Holly/Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3

It is possible to convert your existing playlists using a few basic replace commands in something like Notepad. In my case, I made some code changes in my music manager and now generate two sets of playslists (one standard and one to accommodate iTunes).

Forgive me foir stating the obvious but please remember to make sure that the disk / path containing your music is accessible when doing the import otherwise you will probably get a blank result. Note that you can do a bulk import by selecting all the (revised) playlists and dragging them onto the iTunes sidebar.

I am sorry that this is not a "clean" solution but it will work if you are in a bind. The only alternative of which I am aware is to wait for Apple to fix the problem.

what a silly suggestion for a 'fix' most of the people who stumble across thread will not have a clue how to batch change in notepad using replace commands and why should they.... this seems like a ploy by apple to get lots of users to applefy their windows computers. Just roll back to previous firmware all good

I already rolled back to previous firmware, but for me, it would have been simpler to just make my music manager applefy my playlists, if I had known how. Thanks for the info @rchangel.
