System Preferences not responding when opening desktop

Thanks, i was getting frustrated but moving iphoto database did the job!

I have no idea how to perform this library moving maneuver. Please explain. My System Preferences is not working, frozen, and I have not been in iPhoto for several weeks so can't understand what the connection might be. Nevertheless, I'll try it if I can just understand how to do it. thanks.

kudos man - this did the trick. in the world of microsoft we always called this kind of thing an "event". i moved the folder into the cache and things are right in my world again.

Thanks for posting. I was changing my wallpaper and all of a sudden system preference stopped working thereon. After I saw your post and actually just moved from iphoto library from finder to desktop, it started working instantly. Cheers!

Awesome! it worked!

Literally, drag the file called "iPhoto LIbrary" out of the username/Pictures folder to somewhere else.

Works like a charm.

The strange thing is, that once I dragged the iPhoto Library onto the Desktop, and got Preferences working again, I was able to drag it back, and Preferences does not seem to mind....

I have been trying to restore my system preferences app for a week now. It occurred to me that it stopped working after I had downloaded all my photos from iphoto to an external HD, so i put a single photo into iphoto and VOILA! - system preferences is magically restored...WHY???

when i open system preference its not allowing me to type in my new password. it is just keeps processing the old password and not making me to allow type in new password or sign out. please help
