I wish I could talk with the app store folks about this. So far all I have is an auto reply. I can't find a phone number. If someone has it, could you post it here?

If you decide to keep paypal, be aware (as I was not) that you may have multiple agreements allowing itunes to take money from your paypal account. I canceled an agreement - turns out I had three of them. Found that out when I was hit again the next day. I called my bank and had stop payment put on anything paypal. Cost me 25, but that is better than getting all my money sucked out of my world and into someone elses even if for only 10 days.

I advise ALL PayPal users to download and read the agreement that they are bound to by choosing to use PayPal, read it carefully, read it again and if you don't understand it ask a lawyer to tell you what you have agreed to! you will find that it does not favor the purchaser (you) in almost all circumstances.

The only good thing I can say about PayPal is that unlike outright theft you will be aware of who's got your money.

@azdawg99: Thanks for the tip, but I know exactly what the verification code is. It doesn't accept my debit card. There is lots of problems with Apple, after you take a bite, it's sour to the core. Every phone rep I have spoken with has understood my issue, but their hands are tied. They are limited to what they can do. I was told after battling for hours on the phone to email the app store support team. I got a response that doesn't answer one single question that I had asked, and they deny any involvement in this issue. After I responded to that email, I got a 2nd reply from the same person and she still didn't answer one single question that I had asked, and believe me I asked many questions. She stated that these are preauthorization charges to my debit/credit card. I used direct withdrawal from my bank account, not debit or credit. Apple doesn't even listen when it's typed out in front of them. I seriously have to repeat myself in an email because they don't even listen when they read. She still hasn't answered a single question that I have asked. I haven't received another email back. They just keep waiting for this to work itself out.

I have had the same problem. I was billed 4 times. Apple flat out denied that they billed me more than once. Even after a conference call with Paypal which confirmed they billed 4 times they still refuse to take any responsibility. They are taking the stance that because it shows on their records they only billed once. I emailed itunes appstore support 5 days ago with no reply. So I called in this morning again to Apple support. They are still not admitting fault, and have told me that I need to email itunes support again. They are blaming paypal.

I feel like Apple has stolen money from me, as extra charges are unauthorized. I did not give them cart blanche access to my paypal/checking account to charges as many times as they want. I am out the money and even though paypal says I am being refunded, it is still on hold with paypal and I dont know when I will get that.

Apple really needs to take some responsibility for their actions, instead of pointing the finger in other directions.

I highly doubt I will buy another Apple product again after this.

I earlier posted that putting stop payment on paypal helped...it didn't - 4 new charges this morning. Well, the bank says it will help, as they will return the money directly and refuse the transfer to paypal. We will see.

I told my wife to get the mac out of my sight. I went to att this morning and now I am using an adroid device. I was looking forward to the next iPhone. my son is happy - he gets an ipod touch for taken out the trash for me. I am so done with apple.

I've been charged twelve times for Lion and ten times for Lion Serer. I only authorized one copy of each. Every time Apple credits my account for the duplicates, it recharges my account for more Lions and Lion Servers. I currently have five duplicate Lions and four Lion Servers that I'm trying to get refunds for. Apple support seems very confused over the issue, so I finally gave up and disputed the charges on my credit card. Hopefully that will solve th problem. It seems like the new App Store wasn't quite ready for prime time and couldn't handle the load.

From what I can tell all these issues have one thing in common. PAYPAL!

What paypal does should be illegal. I used to do business with them. Had a similar situtaion with an AMEX charge. Had to get AMEX on the phone with paypal and threaten legal action to get paid.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH PAYPAL!

As always, when making ANY online purchase you should use a credit card and never a debit card of any sort. I can bet almsot all of these issues are paypals fault.

Just think if these charges were on a CC all you would have to do is dispute them with no affect on your cash flow and certainly no bank charges.

Paypal *****!

PayPal and my bank were charged 7 times for Lion; two times on launch day (i think i restarted the download) and 5 times a few days later when I upgraded my mac mini. I think it does have to do with how many time you download something from the app store while your accout is connected to PayPal. When I purchased Lion Server I decided to play it safe and pay with a Credit Card instead of PayPal and that seemed to disconnect the AppStore/Itunes from PayPal and I have not recieved multiple charges from PayPal. All of the purchases in PayPal show refunded and the transaction hold on the first two refunds has been lifted and made available to PayPal. I have transfered the $63 back to my bank acct and we will see how long that takes.

I haven't yet talked with the bank, paypal, or Apple and from this thread it sounds I wouldn't have gotten anywhere.

Thankfully my accounts were not overdrawn by all of this mess, (I would be very agrivated if it did). It looks like this is all going to get sorted out automatically with a little patience. I will update the forum with the continuation of my experience.

Why PayPal has to hold a refund for 5 business days, who knows...probably making interest off the money.

Thankfully, so far, my charges were on a credit card and not PayPal. I would never use PayPal, you give up your rights and I've heard too many horror stories. Anyway, my credit card automatically shut down on suspicious activity when all of the Lion and Lion Server charges were going through. My credit card company then called me and issued a new credit card. So this limited the damage done. As mentioned in an earlier post, I've received some credit, but that has caused new duplicate charges. Anyway, I gave up on Aplle Support solving the issue and have disputed the charges with the credit card company. That seems to be the best way to resolve the issue. PayPal folks seem SOL.

I was charged 9 times for my download; seven times when I first downloaded it and then an additional 2 times later on in the day. I contacted apple technical support to try to resolve this issue and they told me that I should change my Apple ID to use a credit card instead of PayPal for payment. I did this, and they charged me a tenth time. I finally was able to get my refunded money today, but now it's all in my PayPal account, which is of zero use to me outside of purchasing things through the internet. It's the end of the month and I have bills due, plus on top of that it's mine and my girlfriend's anniversary tomorrow. This has seriously messed me up. I have now removed all means of payment from my Apple ID entirely so that nothing like this can happen again. This has certainly put a damper on my willingness to pay for download-only products.

I too was overdrawn on my bank account from the fees. I only use that account for internet purchases. My bank also said it is not their responsiblity to refund overdraft fees when it is not their mistake.

Paypal blames apple. Paypal refuses to pay any overdraft fees, they also told me that the banks cant charge those on an unauthorized charge. That is not the case. Paypal points the finger at Apple. Paypal says they only process the requests that are sent. And if Apple sends multiple requests they process them.

Apple blames paypal, claims they sent the transaction once, and that if it went through multiple it is paypal's fault. Nobody wants to take responsibility, yet neither company is out any money. They are both sticking it to the consumer.

There's a good chance I may never use paypal or buy an apple product again.

Absolutely horrible customer service from both companies. I am ashamed to have done business with either company.
