SMB issues. Can't uncheck user accounts under SMB.

I have some NTFS drives connected to my mac that I used to share using SMB to other computers at home. After upgrading to Lion, I could no longer access my NTFS shares even with SMB. Had some problems with SMB not accepting my passwords but even when it worked I couldn't access my NTFS shares like before, only HFS shares.

Also under Share files and folders using SMB I can no longer uncheck any user accounts even after entering the right passwords. I try to uncheck a user account and it asks me for the password, after that the box get instantly checked back. It works fine on my other macbook, also upgraded to Lion.

Is there any pref or any file I can delete to "reset" Samba on Lion and clear the settings or any other fix to that problem?

Thanks

For those of you trying to access SMB shares, I found a free and easy solution.

Since a lot of people report they are able to access their NAS using apps other than the Finder itself, I decided to look for a free Lion-compatible File Manager to use instead of Finder.

I have found muCommander ( http://www.mucommander.com/ ) and indeed it works fine. All I did was click on the button highlighted bellow, go to "bonjour services" and select my NAS. It prompted me for my username and password and voilá, it works fine.

I keep Finder for everyday use and just load muCommander when I want to access the NAS. At least now I don't have to start my WinXP VM anymore just to access it.

Hope it helps you all.

I have the same inability to uncheck user accounts. Feels like something under the hood is broken.

Either way, I found a fix that works for Windows machines which don't allow you to connect to the Mac shares:

Registry editing for LAN manager authentication level (in Home edition this can be configured through registry)

How to do it:
1. Open registry editor ( Start search – regedit)
2. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
3. Create a new DWORD value with the following properties:

NAME: LmCompatibilityLevel
VALUE: 1

4. Restart your PC and try the connection again

I can't take the credit here... it was a comment posted in THIS thread:
