Since upgrading to Lion, Safari is experiencing "Failed to open page" problems very frequently. I suspect it is something to do with maintaining sessions, as the php scripts running the pages I am having problems with use sessions to maintain state - I know this as I wrote the scripts.
A refresh of the page often then works.
Is anyone else seeing this?

Try this:
From the Safari menu, choose Preferences.
Click "Security".
Click the "Always" radio button in the "Accept cookies:" section.
Close the preferences window.

I've got exactly the same problem with one of my website.
Since I installed Mac OS X Lion, the PHP sessions do not work with Safari. Still working well with firefox and chrome.
I haven't solved or found a solution yet to fix this problem.
I see this often too! Just normal links on web pages which didn't make problems befor OS X Lion...
I have this happen on facebook a lot. Also with google.
I'm seeing this a lot when I try to use PayPal. It happens whenever I try to send a payment. I'll enter all the information, and then I'll click on "Send Payment". Next thing I see is the Safari error message, and I then I have to try everything all over again. I tried five times last night, and ended up having to use Safari on my iPhone to get it to work. Apple needs to fix this annoying bug!
I'm having the same problem, VERY annoying, on lots of websites.
I have the exact same problem. Thought it was a new computer but my old macbook pro, which I installed lion on and has worked perfectly, now gets the same thing. Works when you just hit reload a couple of times (whcih doesn't work of course it it is stallling while trying to login). Glad to see it isn't just me.
Any success with this? I am having the exact same problem. And its happening very often. Its really annoying. Never had this problem on Snow Leopard.
I have done a clean installation of Lion and I don't have that problem ever since...
Anyone else sick of this Safari error?
Since installing Lion I am getting the "can't open" page too many times a day, and it is not on one particular page or domain, it happens everywhere. For me this never happened before Lion.
Despite what the error states, it is not a server issue, as I have used Chrome and FF without ever getting an error like Safari's. I doubt it is a timeout thing either as this error page loads instantly, it doesnt take a few seconds then appear.
Maybe it's an Airport Extreme issue? Mine is getting close to 3 years old, which most likely means it is on its last legs.
Either way, very annoying.
I think that this is a transient problem, as it is only occasionally happening for me now - therefore perhaps something to do with the Safari cache. I suspect that once the problem has occurred on a particular page, it will not then recur for that same page.
Clearing out the cache may help?

Even when opening me.com. Very annoying indeed.
Also, I can't see any streaming video. All issues I am not experiencing in Firefox, so I guess it's Safari, not Lion causing these problems.
I was hoping the update would do the trick, but nothing improved…
