after lion 10.7 no audio sound

I have a mid 2009 MBP, it worked great on 10.6.8, but after installed 10.7, the audio icon gray out, and showing "The selected device has no output control".

It does has sound when boot up, and sound effect is no problem, only the output does not work.

I have to connect my earphone into the jack, and the error message of "The selected device has no output control", disappreared. After that unplug the earphone, everything works. However, once I reboot, the problem remains.

I brought it for service, and they claimed it was a software issue and they could not do anything. They suggested me to reinstall the Lion again.

When I rolled up to 10.6.8 everything worked, but once upgraded to 10.7, the problem was back.

I have reinstalled three times, however, the problem remains.

Any suggestion ?

Yes, but apple already replaced my system board, for a (what they thought was hardware but it was) a software issue.

I know the headphone jack thing works but if you do that about ten times a day, how long before the jack wears out? and then a new system board again. Thats costly, and if you dont have apple care, your screwed!

Apple knows this is a bluetooth / audio driver issue and those of us that have apple care it's okay but those that dont! 476 bucks for a new system board for a software issue is WRONG!

Nice, I see there are two Audio folders maybe competing with each other, one in the root of library and one under preferences.. Ill give it a go

Nope didnt work -----

what works best for me is to mave the magic mouse turned off when booting up the laptop, I always seem to get the volume control then. after boot up turn on the mouse and go -- and if that fails then the head set plug is 2nd option

The Aoudio folder you want to change is in prefereces. Re-name it " Audio.Old". Make sure you turn Bluetooth offf. Open Disk Utility app and Repair Permission then restart. If that doesn't fix it another workaround was to hold the space bar while the computer boots.

The fix above also causes issue with Quicktime player.

I haven't had an issue with Quicktime player after the fix! Let me know and good luck!!
