pinch to zoom not working

Just wondering if anyone is having this problem. This was working for me yesterday but the Pinch to Zoom is not working anymore. Ive double checked the system preferences, and it the appropriate boxes are checked. Just one of many things not working since Lion installed.

I went and tested this to quite an end. First you should determine if your trackpad is actually working.

My steps were as follows to confirm:

1) Go to System Preferences --> Trackpad --> Scroll and Zoom

2) Confirm that Zoom in or out has a check mark.

3) Test another gesture such as scrolling.

4) Now open a JPG or PNG in Preview. Try the pinch and zoom.

4A) If it works, QUIT the application where it is not working and retry.

4B) If it doesnt work, then restart your machine

5) At RESTART, ZAP your PRAM! Command + Option + P + R

6) Open System Preferences --> Trackpad --> Scroll and Zoom

7) Uncheck your Zoom Preference

8) Click Show All or Close System Preferences so the TrackPad preference gets a fresh write with the setting unchecked

9) Go back to System Preferences --> Trackpad --> Scroll and Zoom

10) Check the Zoom feature

11) Test again.

In MY case I was done at step 4A. I was able to quit safari and mail and upon reopening the application I was back in business.

Hope this helps you all.

Just bumping this issue. It's really quite infuriating. Pinch/zoom works for awhile and then stops. I have to quit Safari, relaunch and then use Reopen All Windows From Last Session. I can't spot any pattern or any particular activity that causes it to fail. The Lion is by far the most irksome of the OS upgrades that I've experienced so far. And I go back a long, long time.

Sending feedback, calling Applecare, going to the Genius Bar, or telling a store employee does nothing. Ive spoken to numerous Apple tech people and theyve all told me they are aware of the problem and that many others have reported it. Apparently it is just one of many Lion bugs.

We all know how to use our trackpads...Its not a case of it NEVER working but that it sometimes works and sometimes doesnt...and the only way to fix it seems to be close Safari and reopen it.

I bought a MacBook Air a week ago and it seems I'm having the same problem with you guys.

I've made several calls to Apple care and they couldn't fix it for me yet.

First, they told me to do "three button reset". When I called back again, they told me to reinstall OS and it didn't solve the problem. Only remedy I have so far is to restart the computer only to make it work for a while.

Very frustrating!!! Apple care now suggests I should bring my computer to the nearest apple store.

Is there anyone who actually brought the computer to the store and fixed the problem?

If not, I will let you guys know soon.

Applecare, Genius Bar, Store Manager, Tech personnel - no one could fix it. Just seems like a Lion glitch, especially since many people are having the same issue. You can try if you have the time.

Ive had a Mac for only a few months and honestly its been the worst experience of my life. As far as this issue, even after the store manager replaced my computer with a brand new one, it still kept happening so I dont think the store will be able to fix it.

I know in my store, I had to have a 2+ hour conversation with the manager about how incompetent his staff and trainers were. Wont go into all the problems, but they were many..and when I, a non-tech person who is new to the Mac, started figuring out all the tech mistakes made by store employees and Applecare, I got really frustrated as it was the opposite of the Apple experience I was promised. Add rude Applecare employees (including one who sent a really nasty email) and it's not been fun. Luckily I was able to point out some of the employees and print out that email (although we all now think it was probably a frustrated an employee on his last day who just decided to screw everyone cuz he was so ******; otherwise, he probably got fired after his behavior)

Anyway, got off topic. Take it into a store and tell them others have had similar issues and see if they can fixi t. From reading the posts on this forum, it seems others are having more serious issues than I am. Like I said, Im not seeing the artwork with the file in the Finder at first...but if I delete and recopy the artwork the next day, it usually solves it for me.

OOPS

Sorry I got confused as to which forum this was and replied about another Apple problem people have been having with itunes artwork,

Anyway, regarding the pinch to zoom - you can take it in but everyone I spoke to has said its a Lion glitch that they are aware of. The Applecare techs Ive spoken to have told me they've heard this from other people.

Just make sure that you know how to manipulate the trackpad. If youre able to pinch to zoom at times, and then it doesnt work other times - and youre sure you're doing it right- then try to close Safari or reboot. That seems to work for most people.

You can try to take it into the store...but they may not be able to replicate the problem when youre there; in that case, they are going to tell you that you're probably just doing it the wrong way when youre at home.

Hopefully, theyll have a fix in a future update as it is frustrating.
