Itunes Artwork Problems with Lion

I've noticed some problems lately with Lion and artwork from Mp3 files no longer being seen in the Finder. Im a new Mac user (only a few weeks) and had lots of issues with itunes from the data transfer but finally was able to get everything working (after 8 hours in the retail store)

Anyway when Lion was installed, there were some hiccups apparently in the 10.4 itunes download.

Now, since it has downloaded there seems to be a new problem with certain files' artwork no longer being recognized in the Finder. (I'm not even sure if that matters - the artwork is showing up in itunes and ipod but not in the finder). This is especially affecting new downloaded tracks (not from itunes)..I can add artwork but it will not appear in the Finder...and it also is affecting some older files and folders that did not have any problems. For certain artists with multiple albums, the artwork keeps disappearing...if you are able to add it for one album, it disappears for the second album...if you fix it for the second album, it disappears again for the first. So just wondering if anybody else is having these issues...or has any ideas to fix it. Id really like to have the artwork in the finder; it just makes me feel more comfortable after all the problems I've had. And so far everytime someone at Applecare or Retail Store tells me to do stuff on my computer, it has just screwed things up even more.

I don't know why the rest of the OS is affected by an iTunes update but I can assure you that it is and that iTunes the issue. Multiple tests on Snow Leopard AND Lion confirm that the artwork in Finder is broken only after updating iTunes past 10.3.1. Not an OS update.

There was exactly the same issue with iTunes 9.2 a few years back. Back then I did the very same tests but with Leopard and Snow Leopard, starting with iTunes 9.1.1 then moving to 9.2. On both OS's the artwork was only broken after updating iTunes.

Apple released an update a few months later that fixed the problem. Was it an OS update? No. It was iTunes 10.

iTunes is the problem.

yes, I agree with this. I had the same problem over a year ago. summer of 2010. then they fixed it. and it happened because of a previous update.

But you are right, I have a computer still running snow leopard and just a few months ago after Lion was released, all the artwork on that computer was available in all folders. It is still on snow leopard, but now, 4 months later, I no longer see my artwork.

The only difference...I have updated my itunes..

such BS. why does iTunes have to be involved with so much more. I don't like how one program decides the fate of everything else. I do not like that kind of control. That is why we switched from PC to MAC. majob inbalance here

I just downloaded iTunes 10.5.1, did some tests and it seems to work now, I added a .jpg to a song without artwork and it appear in Finder just fine, the only thing I noticed was that I couldn't drag the pic when in the little box "Now Playing", I had to go to "Get Info"/"Artwork to drag it to my desktop.

Another thing is that when I added the pic it didn't show in the box, I had to play another song then go back to the one I fixed and it appeared, the same thing when you delete an artwork, it stil shows until you play another song go back to the previous and then it gets deleted.

Oh, and also some other songs that I downloaded and never showed artwork in Finder, after 10.5.1 they showed the artwork in Finder just fine.

So, after all that, is nice to see that the file in Finder shows the artwork, but, they fixed something and messed up something else, but I much rather have the problems of 10.5.1 that the previous bugs in 10.4, 10.5.

Cheers.

I just updated to 10.5.2. and the screensaver could no longer find any artwork. This has been a recurring problem on the forum, however, over the years with no obvious solution. I tried many things suggested here with no luck. I was looking for a solution at the screensaver or library/plist end. In the end it seems to have been a problem with the iTunes library. In Time machine I noticed some odd folder changes that occurred a couple of days ago BEFORE i updated to 10.5.2. (I don't think I did anything recently except sync my ipod, but I remember an unusual dialogue during sync signalling an anomaly but didn't pay much attention). For instance, one artist folder had appeared duplicated outside the iTunes Music folder - tracks I haven't listened to in months.

Solution that worked for me was to go back in Time Machine about 5 days - before the update - and before the folder appeared, and restore the entire iTunes folder. This worked.....
