Lion and Keynote Problems

I live in iWorks and have a VERY large Keynote presentation with lots of movies (1.1Gb) that I work off of. It worked great in SL, but after upgrading to Lion, I continually get the rotating ball of death loading Keynote, random times working in Keynote, and saving the presentation. It will eventually, after minutes, clear the ball but this is ridiculous. Any ideas?

OK. I have managed to solve the problem somewhat for me.

1. I updated to 10.7.2

2. Reinstall iWork form original diak

3. Allow software update to latest version.

4. Load a keynote and create a verson.

My files atre as much as 1.6GB so so it is still a little slow as it still saves versions but much better.

Let's hope Apple give us an option to disable Versioning. It is such a simple thing to ask for. It's all about giving us a choice.

I wouldn't classify Joel Hall's workaround as "perfectly good", since it didn't work for several of us.

I wouldn't call it perfect either, but is an easy process to do. ::grin::

I had one document that started slowing down Keynote in 10.7.1, and got even more so in 10.7.2. I then selected "duplicate" in the title bar of that document and used the duplicate instead and the stalls again have stopped with all Keynote documents.

That's pretty weird, but I'm grateful it works.

Seriously... This needs to be fixed ASAP! Apple... I need resolution on this matter.

Sorry you're having issues with Keynote. I'd be checking out the integrity of my hard drive and making sure I have a backup if I had something like that happen, especially if it continued to be unusable after the reboot.

You don't mention anything you've actually done related to solutions mentioned in this thread.

Also, Apple does not monitor these boards, at least not officially. AppleCare, or an Apple Store Genius would be your access to an actual, official, Apple representative. We're just Apple users like yourself.

Best wishes. Joel.

Thanks Joel,

Completely understand that Apple doesn't monitor these forums. It was mostly me just venting in frustration.

Talked to Apple today, and a fix that seems to be working for me for now is that we deleted the plist files in the library for Divix and FlipFor Mac. But I haven't tested this out to see stability in the long term. Hopefully this is the answer.

Thanks,

Mike

Interesting to hear you may have a fix, however I've already downgraded back to Snow Leopard and am staying with this until there is some resolution acceptable to all. I've been an Apple die hard for over 10 years but am finding myself not talking with the usual enthusiasm for Apple that I used to. Keynote my flagship choice for presentations is unusable (or just too high a risk) for presentations to large audiences.

I have two macs an iMac and a Macbook pro. I have downloaded LION 10.7.2 on my iMAC and reinstalled Snow Leopard on my Macbook as this is what I need for keynote presentations. On reading some new posts which state they have Keynote working, this morning I added a video heavy keynote onto the Lion ( it works perfectly in SL) and guess what ...its one long beachball on Lion. Sticking with Snow Leopard until Apple address this.

hikkadwa, you don't say, so I'm asking, did you check out Event Producer's advice from Apple for video issues:

"delete(d) the plist files in the library for Divix and FlipFor Mac."

I do know there is a new version of FlipFor Mac, that may help as well. While you're at it, I'd suggest also checking Perian for an update if you have it installed. I don't have Divix, but I updated these other video helpers with my Lion install.

Good luck!

Yes, for me KEYNOTE is fine. I started a new presentation and dragged an MOV file in, which before the update hung immediately, but now was fine- didn't hang/lockup and video played just fine. Then I open an existing 30 slide presentation and added an audio file (m4v), and again it didn't hang,- all worked fine.

My path to Lion was as an update from Snow Leopard on a year old MacBook Pro 2.53GHz Core i% w/4GB RAM.

If you still get hangs/crashes be sure to report every one to Apple.

For me so far okay. RB

I experienced the same slow-down of my Keynote editing. My workflow was to take slides created in Illustrator and copy and paste then animate elements in Keynote. This worked perfectly until my upgrade to Lion and latest Keynote update.

What I have discovered is that if I go to my iCloud preferences under System Preferences and turn off "documents and Data" there does seem to be a performance improvement. I don't know if this is a coincidence. I'll have to test it out for a few days and see. I'm thinking maybe the spinning beachball indicates that the document is continually being uploaded and backed up to iCloud ?

Unless you are having other OS-related problems, simply reverting to iWork 9.0.5 avoids the Autosave/Versions problems with Keynote. A programmer friend of mine surmises that the problem has to do with the the Autosave/Versions feature attempting to scan the video files. I'm hoping that future revisions of OS 10.7 will make Autosave/Versions a switchable option. As for me and my house, it's iWork 9.0.5 and OS 10.7.1 until I read that everything is going OK. I have too much work at stake to be doing beta testing for Apple.

Beta tester for Apple - you're right. Today I removed Keynote from Lion on my iMac and installed Keynote 09. Without re-updating software I was unable to open any presentations. Thankfully I remain on Snow Leopard with my Macbook pro and will continue to stay with SL until Apple resolve this. All new presentations will be done on Powerpoint. I was on the phone today with Apple techline who searched their records and told me they were unaware of any problems with Keynote and Lion...worrying.

it might be of interest for some of you!

I experienced exactly the problems with Keynote mentioned above. I tried everything suggested in this thread. Nothing changed a bit!

But I figured out something else: Keynote will not autosave my big file (2,8GB) while I keep editing it! Not before I take a break for a minute or so, the spinning wheel starts turning. I know, not close to a solution, but interesting.

Anyone else has a solution yet?
