OSX Lion, Graphic Artifacts

Hello, after i've installed OSX Lion on my iMac 2011 27°, i started getting strange graphical artifacts on my desktop as you can see in this screenshot. http://t.co/5EXmRfL

The graphic artifacts randomly appears, without that i am doing nothing in particular.

Is this a common issue? It's a Lion issue (fixable with an update) or should i format my iMac?

A copy of your message for reference:

I bought my 27" Mac from the Online Apple Store Australia when the 2011 model was released ( Same Day ).

And iv now collectively encountered far too many problems on this to be worth the $3000 + I paid.

Specs:

27-in, Mid 2011 iMac

Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory 16GB

Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB

Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 (11B26) (Everything up to date)

Main problems:

1. Yellow / light smudge or smear mark under screen ( Visible on darker backgrounds, its a problem as I'm a graphic designer for work )

2. Graphics artifacting in OSX Lion, This is random and happens twice or so a week, The top menu pixalates, Dock pixalates and icons glitch and loose shape and colour.

3. Bootcamp using Windows 7 whilst gaming crashes and has major graphic malfunctions.

4. Computing locking up. This is a powerful computer and shouldn't be locking up with basic tasks. Screen freezes and no force quit commands work.

5. Some of the pink and green youtube flickering, as well as in quicktime for video playback

6. Hangs on grey screen on reboot for 30s-5m. (...with these specs it should be around 20 seconds?)

This is all that I've noticed so far, but the stain the screen has been their since day one which is upsetting.

The yellow /grey smudge stain on mid bottom left of the LCD appears after a few hours work on the computer. My belief is either that bit is a heating GPU problem.

The rest are all Driver problems. Please patch this apple.

If youve encoutered the same thing please post here to start a thread as apple take notice of these.

If I've mentioned it here before my bad, but I see this as another thread where I also have had issues trice installing Lion on a MBP 3,1

I saw graphic artifacts and also had the LR-BSOD (Lion Repeating Black Screen of Death) issue reported in another thread.

I've since returned to Snow Leopard and using this machine now with no more issues.

You really should explain fully. Obviously we would all like to know exactly what you did to that 27 iMac. It's the only way all of us can come to a conclusion on the reality of the situation. Just running down Apple's product is not positive - and I 'say' that with knowledge of my own problem on a 27 so I'm not biased against any form of commment but need all help.

I was in a hurry so I did not have time to show the problem to any apple stuff, not that they would have been able to do anything about it ... next time I go and if have more time I might start a discussion about it.

here is how to reproduce the problem:

1. go into an apple store

2. find imac 27 with ati 6790m 1GB

3. open finder and select a folder with over 100 items

4. switch to list view.

5. start scrolling up&down like your were going mad until u get the artifacts ( shouldn't take more than 1-2 min )

7. show it to an apple stuff and ask for explanation if u like 🙂

apple must now about this problem, because:

- if it happens in the apple store it must have been reported by thousands of people

- in the developer release they keep updating the gfx drivers ( and this sounds/seems like a driver bug )

so I really hope 10.7.2 will fixed this problem, if not I go back to the apple store and reproduce this problem on every imac in the store 🙂 and start complaining to everyone...

I've just come off line from Apple Support. My problem is thought to be a bug with Safari in Lion. Went through a thorough system of deleting the playlist whilst reserving the original one on the desktop. Returned to Safari and found that, if anything, my problem of preventing an involuntary movement to the top left of the page followed in a flash by a changed pixel count, had increased to twitching of a page, up and down jerking then scrolling, and shunting sideways to the next page. With the latter, on returning to my page my input I was typing had gone . . .

I will continue striving with Apple to conquer the problem and my next appointment is for 1400 BST on Wednesday.

I have this problem too. I have a 27" iMac, Mid 2011 (3.4Ghz i7, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB) and I am experiencing the following intermittent issues, which are solved each time by a restart:

  1. When watching video with either Quick Look or Quicktime the video will break up and be overlaid with either large blocks or lines of pixelated colour often pink and green.
  2. Often when this happens the type on the menu bar will also break up and become sort of faded looking and hard to read. Desktop items may also break up becoming unrecognisable.

When I first got the iMac it had Snow Leopard installed. Not long after I upgraded to Lion (now running 10.7.1). As far as I can recall, this did not happen under Snow Leopard, but I did not run the machine for that long under Snow Leopard before upgrading. I have not experienced the freezing issue that other iMac owners have seen, and software update has not recommended the patch for the freezing issue, so I have not installed it.

I think it needs as many people as possible to contributde to this problem so that somehow, someone, may be able to help us out of our difficulties. It obviously has a wide interest level with so many viewing, so there must be many more who are suffering but getting by for the time being. I wish to proceed with FCP X and don't want a long series of interruptions when editing.
