Is this still the case after applying the firmware update to the display?
Cheers,

"You can't use it with a Mac Pro, but Apple will still bundle a Cinema Display with a Mac Pro if you choose."
Nick, do you think that by updating the firmware of the display will change the hardware of the display?
The firmware never mention about after updating will allow it to use with a MacPro.
Apple frequently make changes in their firmware that they do not document.
I have no knowledge if it will or not, but until somebody tries, we simply do not know...
Even Wikipedia also says can't use on MacPro
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Thunderbolt_Display
" leaving just the Mac Pro line as a Mac without Thunderbolt. Macs without a Thunderbolt port cannot connect to the Apple Thunderbolt Display."
You guys got to remember that last year we ran into the same problem when the 27-inch LED Cinema with Mini Display-port was release, late model Mac Pro's like for example the 2008 Mac Pro, Apple said that the 5770 and 5870 was not capadable with 06, 07, and 08 Mac Pro but then Bare Feats ran the 5870 in a 2008 Mac Pro and few other tried on 06 and 07 and got the 27-inch LED Cinema running on a late model Mac Pro, My guess just wait until Apple release the 2011 Mac Pro and just pick up a thunderbolt GPU upgrade kit when it comes available that's what i'm going to do but as of right now you can not use the thunderbolt display on your 2010 Mac Pro with Mini Display Port, if you can't wait just pick up a LED Cinema they look exactly the same
I just bought the new MacBook Pro 2013 with the new Thunderbolt Display 27".
I also have a MacBook Pro (mid 2010).
The Thunderbolt display is a simple plug-and-play device with the new MacBook Pro 2013 - plug it in, it turns on - take it out it turns off.
If I plug it into my a MacBook Pro (mid 2010) in the same manner - the Thunderbolt display DOES NOT TURN ON.
Unless there is some special configuring that one has to do for the Thunderbolt display to work on a MacBook Pro (mid 2010) -- (and no one seems to be giving out such instructions anywhere on the internet) -- I would asume that the new Thunderbolt Display 27" IS NOT FOR OLDER VERSIONS of the MacBook Pro than the 2013 version.
