No keyboard backlight after Lion install

My keyboard backlight on my MBP does not turn on (even in dim areas) since installing Lion. It doesn't even seem to recognize the F5 and F6 buttons like it used to. I'm afraid I didn't do a software update before downloading. Anyone else having this problem?

Resetting SMC does not work. To get F5/F6 working, simply uncheck "Autmatically illuminate keyboard..." However, you will not be able to turn off your backlit keyboard unless you dim it to 0. This *****. Apple should have done a better job with Lion.

I left everything as it is and opt for 3rd party apps - Labtick adds a shortcut to adjust the intensity on the taskbar.
