@ TheSmokeMonster Your SSD plugs are getting a bit boring.
Where does it say that you will only get a fully operational OS with Lion if you have SSD?
And to comments that these problems are not normal, take a look around! There are already more than a tenth of the total number of threads discussing Lion than there are Snow Leopard.
I've installed Lion twice and been through all the remedies I can think of and can find on here and elsewhere (with the exception of your very UNhelpful suggestion).
I have rebooted dozens of times and if it wasn't that I needed to enter my password part way through booting, I could cook myself a full English breakfast in the time it takes before my Mac is barely functional. Even after 20 minutes, a finder window is taking upto 20s to open and then it appears empty with the SBBoD for a further 30s.
I'm sick of this. Really sick of it. I'm particularly sick of people who aren't experiencing any problems talking to those that are like they are somehow at fault, paranoid or imagining it. I virtually live with Activity Monitor open watching the Finder and kernel_task taking up CPU and Real Memory whilst I stare s the SBBoD and feel like I ought to be spending my time more constructively.
It's pretty clear to many people that this was not fully developed and not tested on a proper range of system configurations. Apple promised it in July and rushed it out to save face. They should have put it on hold, swallowed their pride (unintetional pun) and worked on it until it was ready.
