Yikes - been using Lion now for a few days - and yep it's slower [fact]. Also quite buggy at the moment - the new movements on the mouse / trackpad are a pain - i have changed them as you just touch them and bang the screen disapears - a real pain specially if you are typing an email - i've lost countless emails so i had to disable the flick screen thingi.

Also on start up or should say snooze up - it takes age's - a good 4 - 5 mins ... i turn the mac on, then go for pee - have a wash and it's just getting ready for me to use!

I do like the new mail layout, and i do like the launch pad - so thanks for that - just needs to speed up a little - i wish i had Snow Leopard ... 😢

I'm finding the more i use it the less i like it ... again i know it's only a few days since the change to Lion - but i'm noticing every 90 mins the mac freezes for 30 - 50 seconds (specially when using Safari) - yesterday the drive was wizzing around for a good minute too!

I'm not liking LION OSX - patches needed for all these gremlins ... maybe give beta's to users that use the machine 10 hours a day plus ...

I loved Snow Leopard and like an APPLE HEAD FOOL upgraded as soon as it was available ... BAD idea!

I turned Spotlight off -- well I dragged the whole Mac HD device to the Spotlight Privacy panel -- and the system is much more repsonsive. The fans don't go crazy and guess what, my battery is closer to the 7 hours it was under Snow Leopard. I think Apple has to make major changes to Spotlight indexing. It's great to use Spotlight to find files but not if it takes over your computer and makes it uncomfortable to work.

I installed Lion about a week ago, and it was running so sluggish I could barely operate and get anything done. Browsing was horrendous (Safari); I couldn't multitask; yesterday started getting white and black screen crashes. Spotlight indexing had long since finished; had verified and repaired disk and permissions, both in disk utility and booting in recovery mode; had installed gfxcardstatus and updated settings... Finally I could barely even boot the thing.

This morning, booted into recovery HD and reinstalled Lion. This entailed another download and install - still of the upgrade product. Running flawlessly since. Speed - no problem. Launching programs, surfing, multitasking - no problems.

Turns out JRE wasn't installed. Now everything is back to normal.

As far as the memory allocation issue, I didn't realize I was launching the 32 bit version of PS for plug-in compatibility. Clicked on the PS.app file -> Get info -> un-tick the "Launch in 32 bit mode" option.

It is running VERY slow indeed: safari, start up time, third party apps (lighroom 3 needs three time longerto create jpg files from raw’s), battery life is going down dramatically especially if u use safari and hit some flash pages. I have been using lion for several weeks now and I tried some if the hints and tricks people were talking about here to fix some of the problems. but for me the only one good advice is: just don't buy it right now. the entire performance is incredibly slow. Your computer will age 3 or four years once lion is installed. my quad-core mac pro became almost as slow as my 4 year old vista laptop, which is just unacceptable.I have no clue why they came out with an update which is obviously worst than leopard. stay with leopard until they fix these problems !!! seriously!!!

One question: does anyone know if there would be any problems going back to leopard by usingtime machine? or would it be recommended to reinstall leopard by using the recovery cd's? If I would use time machine would this mess up the hard drive by leaving some of the files created by lion or does time machine restore the original condition?

OK I just left the local Genuis Bar and after two hours the best they can say is a total reinstalled, ugh. That means I have to take back down to them a back up hard drive and let my Air spend the night.

Apparently when the lap top is opened up there is something weird in the process. Go figure, they rushed this **** upgrade out way too early. I have stopped all my employees from upgrading.

Jan1977. what progress bar are you speaking of. if it's in Spotlight, let it run and then see how your system is like. also try Verifying your Disk in disk utility. ive seen this as 90% of the problem with lion installs. why did you waste a DVD? why is your only machine a PC running XP, is that supposed to be ironic?

I don't think you'll be able to get the backup of lion things onto SL, or at least that's what an apple tech told me on the phone when I asked him after hating Lion the first couple days.

I've adjusted and I'm starting to taim the beast but it's not without it's growing pains.

Lion is very slow please help!
