Did you try to force quit iTunesHelper ? I know that it interfers with the installation of XCode 4.1

I have tried 3 times to install XCode on a clean OS X Lion - brand new machine. It sticks at the same place every time popping up an installation alert: Please close the following applicaiton: iTunes. But iTunes iisn't open.

If I open iTunes and close it the alert doesn't go away. There is no way to dismiss the alert either. The only way seems to be to reboot. If you quit the installer the alert stays on screen.

I ran across Xcode 4.1 not wanting to get through installation.

This is what worked for me.

1/ Fire up Activity Monitor and check that iTunes, iTunes Helper and maybe some Xcode stuff is not running

2/ Remove Previous Xcode (4.0.xxx Snow Leopard in my case) This step is optional I'd say.

3/ open Terminal and:

• cd /Aplications

• sudo open Xcode Install.app

• Install Xcode as usual

• Enjoy ;-)

Hope it works for you too.

What worked for me after the app store failed to download XCode, is download the .dmg from Apple Developer's website, and use that to install XCode. But...

1) Took me a while AFTER loading up the pkg, the XCode installer could not complete saying I already installed it

2) I finally found the XCode installer, it is in the Applications folder, NOT in the launchpad

3) 70~80% of the way through it asked me to close iTunes, and from this forum, I went and did a >top in the terminal and then >kill ###, where the ### correspond to the number next to iTuneHelper

Then XCode installed successfully, >which gcc shows

/usr/bin/gcc

Looking in my install log I noticed that prior to the Code=112 error there was an indication that "root is not in the sudoers file.". I checked this ( go to /etc ) and found that it had been moved to "sudoers~orig" and a new empty file put in its place. Removing the empty file "sudoers" and doing "mv sudoers~orig sudoers" allowed a successful installation. Note, the sudoers file is the problem you cannot "sudo the commands above. You have to log in as superuser ( su at the command line). If you have not set a superuser account up yet go to System/Library/CoreServices and find "Directory Utility". Under "Edit" you will find "Enable Root User".

Hope this helps...

Someone try the new update of xcode 4.1.1 ? The problem with pkg is Still there ?"

Downloaded the free 4.1.1 updater from App Store.

After completion of download, found in Applications 'Install Xcode" 4.1.1.

Launched it, it started "Updating files...", the progression bar reach to half an inch of completion, and remains stuck there.

It has been at least 45 minutes.

Activity Monitor shows processes:

com.apple.dt.InstallXcodehHelper User: root % CPU 0.0 Kind: Intel (64 bit)

Install Xcode User: user (not root) % CPU: toggles from 2.1 to 2.2, back to 2.1 - appears to be stuck Kind: Intel (64 bit).

I am tempted to force quit the two above processes, in Activity Monitor, and try to reinstall.

Any ideas before I bamboozle something?

I had the same problem - tried to install Xcode 4.1.1 on Lion but failed.

Thanks for the suggestion. Here's how it worked for me:

In Terminal:

cd /Aplications

sudo open Install_Xcode.app

Done. Happy ending!

One thing though: I had to rename Install Xcode.app to Install_Xcode.app so that it could be recognized and executed by sudo.
