No, it cannot. The media needs to be converted to 25fps.

Thank for that Tom how do I do that, do you know what software can work with 50fps
You can use MPEG Streamclip to convert. FCPX will edit 1080p50 media, though I believe it has problems importing it, though that may depending on the media exact specs. The same is the case with FCP7.
If I convert the media to 25 fps, I take it that I will loosew HD quality, If I convert it useing MPEG Streamclip to dit using FCPX, as this is able to edit 1080p50 I take it the HD quality will be maintained.
There will be very little if any loss in quality converting from 50fps to 25fps.
Why do you have to convert if you're leaving the media in 50fps?

We need the exact and complete specifications of the original media before we can tell you how to convert it. You will be converting it to QuickTime using the Apple Intermediate Codec.
Sorry to be dumb but how do I find out the information required
Open the file I'm the QuickTime player and report what it says in the movie inspector or post a screenshot.

Not seeing anything there. Did you click the camera button to upload the file?
You're talking about a camera and showing a DVD disc. This is information from the QuickTime player. What camera is this?
