iMac with Lion not waking after overnight sleep

Since upgrading to Lion a few days ago, my iMac (2010) won't wake up with magic keypad swipe, button press, spacebar or any other key. Works fine and wakes fine when used periodically during the day, but is locked tight upon first use in the AM. The only thing that works is a hard power off and reboot. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I am having same BT issues with both mine and my wife's (late 2009 27" Imac) after upgrade to Lion. Call to Apple support suggested SMC reset. this morning her computer would not wake up, mine woke up fine. I believe SMC reset to be irrelevent. I have noticed it is usually one or the other that is not waking, not both. We are hard wired to 4th generation Airport Extreme, backing up through Time Machine to external drive connected to USB port on AP. I mention this because when BT crashes, even though 802.11 is turned of and computers are hardwired, backup reports being delayed or failed. No idea if this is related or separate issue, but someone mentioned spotlight being re-indexed with large DB's and my ITunes library and three backup bundles for time machine are on external drives connect to AP.

I will attempt stellamaris 5's solution and post results.

Shut Down

Start while holding down the Alt key

Choose the Recovery disk

Choose Disk Utility

Choose your volume (usually Macintosh HD)

Repair disk

Then repair permissions

Reboot

Apple PLEASE address this! My usual carefree OSX experience is seriously being interrupted.

Model: iMac 24" early 2009

This is weird...

Had problems with bluetooth and wifi being corrupted after a longer sleep period.

Tried most solutions available online, incl. repair disk, repair permissions (helped on a few minor annoyances actually - allways worth a shot I assume), clear SMC, removing my USB hub and thus all USB devices.

Had given up - but 2 days ago I moved the USB cable to the USB hub (where all external USB devices are connected on a powered USB hub) from the iMac's "inner-most" (closest to the stand) USB port to the one next to it. Assuming it would make no difference.

The next morning, Lion resumed from sleep without ANY issues. Tried it after work - again NO problem.

Next morning again - NO problem - and after work today - NO problem. Go figure.

Not sure if this is isolated to my cause for BT and WIFI dropping dead after sleep - but whatever the cause, it appears to be fixed now. Once I get the time, I'll test by moving it back to the inner-most USB port again...

Same issue here, beginning after the upgrade to Lion. Attempted the other solutions listed here, but to no avail.
This issue has been making me crazy the past few weeks, as I've had to Restart about twice a day on most occasion.

Four days ago I changed my EnergySaver settings to the Default options. This seems to have worked for now. This may be related to the Screensaver change mentioned by Craigdh, as now my computer enters Sleep Mode prior to my Screensaver coming on.

After living with this "overnight sleep problem" I called Apple Support (this was before I discovered this thread). I explained the problem ( black screen, touching the power button briefly to get the login screen, and no reponse from my touchpad or magic mouse). The support person had me try a few things In the Energy prefs, had me put the IMac to sleep for thirty seconds, bring it out of sleep normally: it all worked. That was two days ago, and I haven't had a problem since then, but it's an intermittent problem. Sometimes it wakes normally other times a hard reboot is neccessary. Time will tell if what he told me has worked.

The main point of this posting, is that I asked him if he had heard of any other people calling in or reporting this problem and he replied that I was the first. Two days later I discovered this thread, beginning the day after Lion was released... Go figure!!!

I have 3 iMac (22,5 mid 2010) on my house upgraded to OSX Lion but only one of these had a problem with Blue Tooth devices (Keybord, Mouse and track pad) when trying to go out from sleep mode. And this iMac had USB device connected directly on this one.

I tried to disconnect all my USB device for one week and the BT problem disappears.

When I reconnect one of my USB device (tryed my tablet BAMBOO Fun Touch and Pen) the Blue Tooth problem reappeared.

Next I will try to put all my USB device to an external USB Hub and check what's happen with Blue Tooth devices.

hey guys go ahead and add a brand new 2011 i7. my computer fails to return from sleep SOMETIMES while running Final Cut 7.0.3. ive never had a problem running any other program and the computer wakes up from sleep just fine. heres what i got going on:

  • i added the latest version of mushkin ram (16GB @ 1333).
  • as far as peripherals i have a external harddrive, cable internet via ethernet cable, and also a wacom tablet.

i dont think that its a RAM issue but im wondering what it is at this point...(driving me nuts)....

solutions ive tried:

  • rechecking bluetooth devices to make sure "wake from sleep" is enabled on keyboard and mouse connections
  • deleted then readded wifi (another thread suggested that).

still getting these probs. though...any idea how i can tell if its my ram or not? my computer has never gray screen or anything which is why im thinking its not my ram (plus i ran tests on my ram that all passed with flying colors)

Hello,

Maybe a solution for this kind of problem :

I have similar problem on my iMac 21.5 (mid 2010, Core 2) under Lion : impossible to wake up the mac after overnight sleep (bluetooth disconnected).

I had tested PRAM reset, SMC rest, repair permissions : always same problem.

After reading similar post on the web, I had the ideao to looked at my network settings :

Ethernet : connected directly on my Internet box

Wifi : Activated and connected on the SAME BOX

So : 2 internet connexion on the same box.

What I've done :

1) deactivated WIFI

2) removed bluetooth DUN and other bluettoth things.

For the moment... IT WORKS !!!!!

When I installed Lion (update SL), my wifi connexion was deactivated. Lion re-active wifi (for AirDrop maybe).

I don't know why the fact to be connected twice on the same box should affect bluetooth.

I will let you know if it works more than 2 days...

Good luck.

WakeUp from sleep mode and BlueTooh Problem solved for me !

I have 3 iMac 22,5 Inchs (mid 2010) on my home, upgraded to OSX Lion but only one of these had a problem with BlueTooth devices (Keybord, Mouse and track pad, not responding) when trying to go out from sleep mode. And this iMac had USB device connected directly on this one.

I tried to disconnect all my USB device for one week and the BlueTooth problem disappears.

When I reconnect one of my USB device (tryed my tablet BAMBOO Fun Touch and Pen) the Blue Tooth problem reappeared.

Next I tryed to put all my USB device to an external USB Hub with External Power and check what's happen with BlueTooth devices for 3 days. And wake up from sllep mode is working fine without issue with bluetooth devices or with WIFI.

But this is only a temporary patch. I expect apple will make a fix on OSX Lion !

I have tried several solutions posted here. Unfortunately no resolution to my machines not responding to BT peripherals after sleep. We had just purhcased my wifes track pad and tried taking it out of the equation to trouble shoot. Removed the batteries, no problems since. Couldn't begin to tell you why. I have a trackpad on my machine, no issue. She wasn't really taking advantage of it so we returned to Apple. Now I'm dealing with several issues regarding my Airport Extreme... Another post elsewhere!

Lion is not my favorite cat.
