Bluetooth audio in OSX Lion

In Snow leopard, I would use a plantronics bluetooth headset for facetime and skype chats. Now, in Lion, I can't. I keep getting a bluetooth audio error. I live in a dead zone, so this is a pretty important thing for me.

The console shows the following errors:

7/22/11 3:21:11.000 PM kernel: REQUIRE failure: mClientResponseTimedOut == false - file: /SourceCache/IOBluetoothFamily/IOBluetoothFamily-2500.4.17/Core/Family/Drivers/ IOBluetoothSCOAudioDriver/IOBluetoothSCOAudioDevice.cpp:711

7/22/11 3:21:11.000 PM kernel: REQUIRE failure: result == kIOReturnSuccess - file: /SourceCache/IOBluetoothFamily/IOBluetoothFamily-2500.4.17/Core/Family/Drivers/ IOBluetoothSCOAudioDriver/IOBluetoothSCOAudioEngine.cpp:270

I have also noticed that odd things happen to my audio as long as the device is paired, wether or not it is active. Audio is sometimes output as mono, volume controls do not work for the line out, and audio mutes (even thoguh it is shown as unmuted) at random moments. None of this can be resolved as long as the headset is paired.

Is there anything I can do to get my iMac to use the bluetooth earpiece that worked just fine in Snow Leopard?

I did download and install the latest xCode, once it is installed.

then 'Open Developer Tools' -> 'More Developer Tools'

You will need to sign in or create an account as Xcode developer. When you sign in just type in the search field 'hardware io'.

Select and download the latest version of Hardware IO Tools for Xcode.

Once is download open the *.dmg file. In the other hand, in your application Xcode app folder do a right click and select: 'show package content'

Drag and drop all the tools from the 'hardware io' dmg file you just downloaded and place them in the 'contents->applications folder inside the Xcode app folder.

Now if you open the Xcode->Open Developers tools->Bluethoot Explorer

With Bluethoot Explorer open select from the top menu: Tools->Audio Options

I played with the options and realized that the problem was in my case with the bit rate. So I increased the number of packets that can be buffered to 50 and also the latency.

There are many bluethoot tools and graphs that you can use to troubleshoot and check where is the problem with the Xcode Hardware IO.

Let me know, with what configuration you were able to fix your problem.

Greetings.

You must be logged in on the forums and on this thread concerning "Bluetooth audio in OS X Lion" I'd also suggest going to the last page of the thread. There are 14 pages at this moment. In the upper right at the top of the page is a box marked "Actions" (or should be). Simply click on the one that says "Stop Email Notifications"

I don't blame you, this thread has been going since July 2011, without a peep from Apple and now three updates to the OS, without a correction.

Good luck.

Having the same exact problem with my macbook 13". It also has Lion. When I try to connect my new Beats Wirless Headphones to the bluetooth on this mac, I get an error message that reads, "A Bluetooth audio error occurred" and the biggest problem is that when i try to click the button Stop using headset, IT DOESNT GO AWAY! So i need to use the power button on the top right of my mac to restart it and get that message off my screen! C'mon Apple!😠

I've got the exact same issue with my Beat Wireless, they worked fine before updating to 10.7.3. Now nothing works. The resetting P-RAM and turning the mac's discoverable option off worked but the next time I booted my comptuer the Beats stopped working again. This time resetting the P-RAM and unpairing and repairing etc doesn't work.

Not that there appears to be a need for any more examples of this problem, but here's my config;

I have a mac pro quad-core running 10.7.3, just got a sennheiser mm100 bluetooth headset. Pairs fine, but consistently get the "bluetooth audio error has occurred" message. I get a kick out of how pandora also gives an error message right after the apple message, cutely appended with, "it's our fault". Umm, very noble of you pandora, to take the sword for apple, but really, it's not your fault.

Same problem with Creative D100 after updating to 10.7.3. However, I find out a non-sense trick that makes it work.

In the bluetooth preference panel select your device, clic on tasks button and choose "Update Services". Once the bluetooth device results connected, from the same menu choose "Use as Audio Device". In my case worked fine. I hope this can be useful to someone else.

Hey Fellows,

i figure massive problems with my NOKIA BH-905i under 10.7.3.

pairing and connecting worked very well, but...

playback with itunes works well for about 10-15min then the sound quality starts to get choppy.

same for other players like QuickTime and VLC.

my main problem is sykpe, the sound quality is so choppy that i hardly can understand the person i'm talking to.

any advice?

thanks in advance

I'm experiencing the same problem with my Belkin Bluetooth Audio device connected to my stereo. It was working fine before updating to the latest OSX version.

I can pair with my Mac Pro (early 2008), but I get an error when trying to connect. The device is much less than 30 feet away, and I'm able to connect to it just fine with my iPod touch, so I have to believe its a problem with the Mac.
