Bluetooth audio in OSX Lion

In Snow leopard, I would use a plantronics bluetooth headset for facetime and skype chats. Now, in Lion, I can't. I keep getting a bluetooth audio error. I live in a dead zone, so this is a pretty important thing for me.

The console shows the following errors:

7/22/11 3:21:11.000 PM kernel: REQUIRE failure: mClientResponseTimedOut == false - file: /SourceCache/IOBluetoothFamily/IOBluetoothFamily-2500.4.17/Core/Family/Drivers/ IOBluetoothSCOAudioDriver/IOBluetoothSCOAudioDevice.cpp:711

7/22/11 3:21:11.000 PM kernel: REQUIRE failure: result == kIOReturnSuccess - file: /SourceCache/IOBluetoothFamily/IOBluetoothFamily-2500.4.17/Core/Family/Drivers/ IOBluetoothSCOAudioDriver/IOBluetoothSCOAudioEngine.cpp:270

I have also noticed that odd things happen to my audio as long as the device is paired, wether or not it is active. Audio is sometimes output as mono, volume controls do not work for the line out, and audio mutes (even thoguh it is shown as unmuted) at random moments. None of this can be resolved as long as the headset is paired.

Is there anything I can do to get my iMac to use the bluetooth earpiece that worked just fine in Snow Leopard?

I did download and install the latest xCode, once it is installed.

Click in the Xcode icon and open it.

In the top menu: Click on Xcode

then 'Open Developer Tools' -> 'More Developer Tools'

You will need to sign in or create an account as Xcode developer. When you sign in just type in the search field 'hardware io'.

User uploaded file

Select and download the latest version of Hardware IO Tools for Xcode.

Once is download open the *.dmg file. In the other hand, in your application Xcode app folder do a right click and select: 'show package content'

User uploaded file

Drag and drop all the tools from the 'hardware io' dmg file you just downloaded and place them in the 'contents->applications folder inside the Xcode app folder.

Now if you open the Xcode->Open Developers tools->Bluethoot Explorer

With Bluethoot Explorer open select from the top menu: Tools->Audio Options

User uploaded file

I played with the options and realized that the problem was in my case with the bit rate. So I increased the number of packets that can be buffered to 50 and also the latency.

There are many bluethoot tools and graphs that you can use to troubleshoot and check where is the problem with the Xcode Hardware IO.

Let me know, with what configuration you were able to fix your problem.

Greetings.

I have a similar issue with the Jaybird J3 Freedom, except mine connects and pairs fine, lets me choose it as the audio device, but when I play music, nothing happens. I tunes says its playing but the song timebar doesn't progress. I tried updating services and deleting and starting over, but neither worked. I don;t know if it my computer (lion) or the headset..errrr.

Got the same issue Mac OS 10.7.3 with my Jawbone Icone... Can sycn with it In the bluetooth settings but can't get it to send or receive any sound!!!!!

Verry disapointing!

Please do something with it it's been a while now! And i really hate do say this but it's the Apple problem! We can't solved it from our side!

Please do something's it's ridiculus!

Thank's

Jawbone won't connect with OS Lion. Much of what has changed in my Mac since loading Lion has been frustrating and a giant step backward. My Mac went from a flawless exceptional computer to a...dare I say...HP or Toshiba. It freezes up, it's mechanically less user friendly and fluid than it was previously. It freezes up. It won't connect to bluetooth devices. It's slower. Pauses. And, oh yes, it freezes up.

My mac has turned into an HP. I'm disgusted with it.

Need to remove Lion. This is a horrid step backward.

I have a SE MW600 bluetooth headset that I can pair but not use properly. I'm on mbp late 2008 and Lion.

The problem is that I can use stereo output, ONLY if I'm NOT using the MW600 mic simultaneously.

The non-stereo option sounds really bad (though not useless) when using the non-stereo output regardsless of if I'm using the mic simultaneously, it's just that I don't have an option if I do want to use the mic at the same time.

Anyone else experienced anything similar? Any suggestions?

Just adding some weight to the claims. Similar problems, similarly disgusted. Has anyone at Apple ever even hooked up a Bluetooth headset to a Mac? If so, it can't have succeeded; nothing about this is difficult to reproduce. Now using mid-2010 MBP with Lion 10.7.3, but Bluetooth audio hasn't worked for me since my first MBP in 2008 on whatever-the-heck-OS-that-was ... Tiger? Have tried 4 brand name headsets (mostly mono but one A2DP, too), have tried the posted workarounds -- nothing works. And the headset brand is obviously irrelevant. It's just faulty Bluetooth software in the OS. Have reported this through Apple's OS X feedback form. Don't know how useful that is, but the grousing on the forums about this has been going on for fully FOUR YEARS (that I have noticed!), so THAT clearly isn't getting us anywhere...

PHILIPS SHB6110 bought the phone, bluetooth.

It worked perfectly, with stereo sound and all the commands on the iPhone 4 and

iPad 2, both with IOS 5.0. It was enough to activate the bluetooth tablet and

and then the phone handset.

I used the MacBook Pro with OSX 10.7.3 Lion. MBP activated the bluetooth, I called

the handset (held the power button until the lights flash blue and red,

alternately), and finally clicked on "Configure Device

Bluetooth, "in OSX.

If the sound is "mono", just go to "Preferences

System "/" Sound "/" Exit "and select" Stereo Philips SHB6110 "which

is further down the list.

Just can not setup pro microphone SHB6110 work on MAC. if

anyone knows would be grateful if you can help.

Thank you.

Adquiri o fone PHILIPS SHB6110, bluetooth.

Obrigado.

Mono is also only 8khz sampling versus 44.1khz, so there is obviously a very big difference in quality there. Also, Mono in/out and stereo in/out use very different Bluetooth link types — one type (mono) is more susceptible to co-located interference, antenna design, and whether you have 2.4ghz Wi-Fi in use at the same time, or not.

it would be nice if the Bluetooth spec allowed for high-quality stereo input, but there currently is no such provision.

Just got a brand new JABRA HALO 2 Bluetooth headset - and having the same problems as you guys. Really like my 'fruit' gear, but Apple has had a number of problems with Bluetooth (or at least in my experience: the Bluetooth keyboard, the magic mouse, a Plantronics headset, an ICON one and now the HALO2. Tried them all with my MBP and a brand new iMac)

Tim Cook (and Apple) supposedly asked the retorical question: what should we do with some/all of our money?

My retorical answer: fix the Bluetooth stack on your devices!
