Problems with share screen in lion

Hello

I have had problems with share screen since i have installed Lion. I can't share screen even inside the Lan, between Macs and between Mac and Iphone. It's like Lion would had some port block in any hidden place. Anyone knows something about it?

I've also been having problems. Both Mac Mini and MBA had no problems Screen Sharing after Lion install. But after installing an update along with iTunes 10.4 through Software Update, it has brpken Screen Sharing (virtual display).

I can share files through locating the Mac Mini through Finder on my MBA, but after a long delay connecting to Screen Sharing (after selecting the option), and then another "Connecting..." progress bar - nothing. Screen Sharing app is still running but nothing is displayed on my window. It's really odd and frustrating.

Now I decided to connect via VNC and after located the Mac Mini, and then asking me to enter the password, Screen Sharing has been "stuck" trying to connect for the last 20 mins.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work.

I went and uncheck Screen and File sharing (Remote Management and Login wasn't checked). Then selected all those again as suggested. When I select Screen Sharing on the remote machine via Finder, the same thing occurs - a delay in "Connecting..." and then nothing. App still running, but no virtual display/mirroring window. When I closed the app, opened the app and typed in the Host vnc, the same thing occurs. A lengthy progress bar as it connects and then the alert box vanishes, but no virtual display window. It's really quite odd.

Hi

I had same issue (connecting via Ipad's VNC) and I only got a nice grey screen... decided to reboot my iMac once more and now I have the login screen.... but here I have 2 issues...

- I do see the login screen and I select my id, sometimes I get to enter the password sometimes not but was never able to remote to the machine

- I have a french keyboard as default and always had an issue with VNC where the keyboard is not properly mapped... usually not too big a deal as I just change the keyboard on the mac once connected... now there is no option that I found to change the keyboard before entering the keyboard... quite annoying... even M$ has this... or I missed the setting...

if anyone finds an answer ???

tks

I'm CERTAIN it was this Remote Desktop Client Update (v3.5) that broke Screen Sharing on Lion

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4715

I don't have this app, but this update includes more "compatibility" with OS X Lion. Is it logical to download version 3.4 that was released in January 2011 (prior to Lion's release) and see if it work with Screen Sharing? I am adamant that Screen Sharing was working on both Lion machines PRIOR to this update with iTunes 10.4 that were released after Lion was available in the app store

I finally got t'he solution

The problem was t'he New lion feature called "multiuser vnc".

When you acces from "not Lion" device you must

choose The same id user and password that you have

Active in that moment, on The identificacion screen. If that screen don't

Appear must be because you have had one wrong acces before.

In that case you must uncheck "screen sharing" and érase "vnc pass".

Then restart The Mac. After this you check that 2 options. You see that The

System ask permission and you must put The user password.

Then you can try The vnc correctly. You must be sure Of putting The active user when The vnc client ask you.

I have got acces with SL Mac, iPad (with cloudconnect and vnc lite) and with an iPhone. In all

Cases inside lan and on remote, with 3G.

The especial case is that The "vnc password" don't make any función. None Of The

Programa Asks me. But finally i think that is better that it exist ( because when you

Change or Check that Pass Lion makes changes inside The System).

I hope all if this goes OK for you

Sorry mate, it won't work for me. Both my machines are running Lion. Like I said, after installing Lion on both machines, Screen Sharing worked. The minute I did a Software Update, I installed iTunes 10.4 and Remote Desktop Client that's when Screen Sharing refuse to work. Have no problems File Sharing or even connecting, it just won't display a virtual display (aka mirroring the client).

Am thinking about downgrading Remote Desktop Client to 3.4 by manualling installing the older client over the top of the newer v3.5.1...not sure if it can be done or if works...

FINALLY! Got Screen Sharing to work! REPLACE ARDAgent (v3.5.1) with the older v3.4

Instructions by tchaga:

1. Download ARD 3.4 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1350 RemoteDesktopClient.dmg), mount it, look inside the package/Contents, copy the Archive.pax.gz to the desktop

2. Expand the Archive.pax.gz and navigate inside the resulting folder Archive to /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement

3. Navigate to the same folder at the root of your HD (i.e. HD/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement)

4. Copy ARDAgent from your HD/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement to the Desktop and then delete it from the HD/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement folder (you need admin password).

5. Copy ARDAgent from Archive/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement to HD/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement (you need admin password again).

6. Restart

After trying the following without any success (all of which were suggested somewhere in this or related threads in these forums):

• un-checking/re-checking RemoteManagement/ScreenSharing in Sharing Prefs

• downgrading to ARD 3.4

• re-installing Apple Remote Desktop Client 3.5

• messing with Firewall settings

I finally achieved consistent resolution to my Screen Sharing problem by using Disk Utility to Repair File Permissions (and a minor Disk Repair, but I think that was unrelated) on the Mac whose screen I was trying to share.

My final setup has

• Screen Sharing checked in the Sharing Pref pane (and Remote Management unchecked)

• Firewall on in the Security & Privacy Prefs and

• in the Firewall Advanced settings, these two processes: kdc and screensharingd, set to "Allow incoming connections"

Now Screen Sharing is working flawlessly. Hope this saves someone some frustration.

Not for me thanks. Screen sharing was working about a month ago last time I used it. Now it is borked. Apple have borked it. I installed a small waiting OS software update today on a machine I dont use that often.... perhaps that has caused the problem. I have tried some of the suggestions on this page but no luck. It is very very frustrating.

None of the above worked for me, unfortunately. But I have found a temporary solution.

If I don't log out of my Mac Mini Server, but activate the screen saver, I don't have a problem. If I log out for any length of time, I can't reconnect. My problem doesn't seem to be Screen Sharing itself, but the login screen failing to display properly.

I'd prefer to log out when I've finished, rather than depending on the screen saver for security, but at least the screen saver allows me to reconnect.
