Ever since I upgraded to Lion, none of my USB devices are visible in the 'DEVICES' tab in Finder. I've tried a jump drive and my external hard drive.
I'm using a 2011 MacBook Pro. Any ideas?

Thanks ebinellis, I checked the box for Hard Drives. Now I see my Macintosh HD and a local Shockwave installer device but it still doesn't recognize my jump drive and external hard drive.
I was able to hook my printer up to my MBP and it worked so I don't think it is a hardware issue.
Are they mounting in System Profiler?
Apple>About This Mac>More Info. and go to the Storage option at the top.

All I see is my 500 GB SATA Hard Drive and my SuperDrive. No sign of my other external HDs.

Reset your PRAM.
COMMAND+OPTION+P+R while booting, hold for two startup chimes.
Also check to see if they show in Disk Utility.
What format's are they in?

This fixed the problem! Now all my USB drives are visible and my fan isn't running as fast either now. Thank you so much!

I have the same issue and have followed the above with no luck so far. Anyone out there can help?
I am running Lion on a mid 2010 15.4 MBP. and it won't recognise anything in a normal finder window sidebar. It shows up on the desktop, but not in sidebar.

LION is really taking up too much of my time. I was trying to make a recovery drive so I can do a clean install.
I see the jumpdrive in System Profiler but nowhere else.
I bought a brand new MacBook Pro and it corrupted my Time Machine. Thanks AAPL

Ok, finally made it to the real deal. Here's how I solved the problem.
1. I uninstalled every NTFS driver that I had on my Mac.
2. I restarted.
3. I deleted the file on this route: /System/Library/filesystems/ufsd.fs
(I did a backup of the file, just in case)
4. I reinstalled a NTFS driver, (I used Paragon NTFS for Mac v.9.0)
5. Restart again.
6. You're done. You should be able to mount your external NTFS drive.

I mistakenly removed USB drive from the sidebar and now I cannot get it back. I tried the solutions recommended above but still does not work. Any suggestions? Thanks

Thanks! That worked for me. I couldn't figure out why my external drives weren't showing up on my new laptop.
I guess I have a similar problem to the original post. I Can see my devices under the tab in finder. I would like to see them on my desktop how do I do that?
Go to Finder, then Finder Preferences and you should be in General Finder Preferences, where it says: Show these items on the desktop: And you can check hard disks, external disks, etc.
Had the same issue with OS X Lion.
Everything worked perfect and I had no issues with mounting drives, that were showing up on desktop as usual after upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion. But after installing Paragon NTFS (v 7 or 8), disks did not only failed to show up, but they also refused to launch through disk utility.
Healing procedures at disk utility or Command+Option+P+R or checking the appropriate boxes in FINDER PREFERENCES did not resolve the issue.
Only thing that worked for me, was uninstalling the PARAGON NTFS, wiping out any leftovers in Library, and Installing Paragon V.9.5 which is designed to run with LION.
