iPhone won't auto launch iTunes anymore

Update: I downloaded iTunes as if I were installing it for the first time and simply reinstalled it. That cleared it all up for me. It is working like normal now.

Thanks Worth reinstaling iTunes 10.4 fixed the auto launch & auto sync for me as well. Now I just got one issue unknown error -50 for optomizing photos on the last part of the sync that bombs. It started with iTunes 10.4.

had the same issue, unchecked auto open itunes on my iphone screen in itunes, closed itunes, went into users, applications, deleted itunes helper, reopened itunes, connected phone, selected auto open when phone connected, said ok to itunes helper install. Job done

This is really the worst OS release on a mac I have never seen... so many bugs....

ok, cannot find itunes helper?

To Sim....if you are still taking compliments, thanks for the heads up advice on how to get iTunes to launch when I plug in my iPhone or iPad 2. No one provided as clean an answer as you. Question is, why doesn't Apple provide answers to problems like these with the installation of a new OS system, or fix the bug right away. Thanks

Sim - it's 4 months since you posted your replay. And all I can say is THANK YOU!

Since upgrading to Lion I was having the same problem actually with both iPhoto and iTunes. This completely solved my problem. Like rwhite5279 above noted, I had a yellow triangle. It stayed even after I dragged the "iTunes Helper" into my Login Items. 😟

But then (duh)... I deleted the yellow triangled item. Re-dragged the "iTunes Helper" into my Login Items. And viola!

Thanks everyone for the input. I was suffering from this same problem on a PC Laptop running Windows 7. To solve it I took a combination of the tips in this discussion..... Starting iTunes Helper manually got it working temporarily, so I downloaded the latest PC version of iTunes (64bit) and started the installation and chose "Repair". Restarted the machine and all now works.

I get lost at #5 from Sim. I don't find anywhere that says Users and Groups--not in my system preferences anyway. Could you be more specific, please? Thanks
