iPhone won't auto launch iTunes anymore

I just updated to Lion and the new version of iTunes. When I plug in my iPhone, however, iTunes won't launch and autosync anymore. I checked the settings and, based on my preference settings, it should autolaunch. I tried to click and unclick on the setting, restart the computer, etc., but nothing will get iTunes to launch when I plug in my phone. If I launch iTunes manually, it will immediately begin syncing however. Any thoughts how I can go back to the old way?

Hi there,

Well, this thread certainly seems to have some life left in it.

Here's a screen shot of my (now Mountain Lion) System Preferences, you can see Users and Groups highlighted under System.

User uploaded file

If you can't see it, try clicking and holding on the Show All button at the top of the dialog and a list of the preferences will drop down. Users and Groups should be right at the bottom.

Hope that helps,

Sim

Well, this all started because I was trying to transfer an audiobook from OverDrive to iTunes. It couldn't get iTunes to open. It took a few different tries, but they finally figured out the problem... and now iTunes opens when I plug in my phone. It had to do with the administrator settings.

My PC is set up with four different users, but only two of us are administrators (Windows 7).

Here is what I had to do:

Open the iTunes folder in your Program Files folder (in is under x86).

Right click on the .exe file, and click on Properties.

Under the Compatibility tab, I had to uncheck the box next to "Run this Program as an administrator."

I actually had to first click the "Change settings for all users" first.

After I restarted the computer, it was working! Maybe this will help you.

AAARRGGHHH!!! This can be so frustrating at times. My iPhone 6 was syncing fine a few days ago. Today it wouldn't. Tried various steps listed above and still no luck. So I looked in "Programs & Features" and saw that some apple updates will installed 2 days. So I uninstalled these. Restarted my PC and started iTunes and now its working again. Phew
