HELP!!!
Just upgraded to Lion.
When i paste html code into TextEdit and save as .html, the moment i edit and save that same file it automatically changes the extension of the file from .html to .txt..how do i turn this off so that it saves it as .html?? in Snow Leopard it never did this.

Open and Save preferences. Deselect Add .txt extension to plain text files.
Tried that.
Still reverts back to .txt
If you don't get an answer try TextWrangler from the Mac App Store - it's free 😉

Thanks Colin, i will give that a shot...but i cannot help but think that this is something in the preferences somewhere....which is why it's dricing me nuts. I have tried everything.
Just saved some text from here by viewing source and saved as .html to desktop.
Opened it with TextEdit 1.7 (288).
Deleted some lines. Save a Version. Close window.
Back to desktop. Open with TextEdit no problem.
Hmm...
What happens if you choose Wep Page as the file format in Save dialog?
Can even Browse the Versions to see that it worked:

Do it in this order and tell me what happens:
1. Copy and paste any html code into TextEdit.
2. File, Save, "Test.html" (on your desktop).
3. Test.html shoudl still be an open window in TextEdit.
4. Edit any line of code in Test.html and save the file.
It will revert it back to .txt
As soon as i start editing the test.html file it changes the title to say ".txt-edited" in the title bar.
Got part way through this with added screen shots and Safari crashed 😟
