Regular Expose in Lion

Does anyone know how to fix expose in Lion to show all windows? (like it did in version 10.6 - through version "the dawn of time")

What I would prefer is a terminal code to make this the default behavior for expose for all users under all circumstances.

Anyone?

My last reply to this hellish thread. While I understand 1st hand how frustrating it can be to get used to something different, especially at the rate Apple has been changing things, you have to stop and think how we all got to this point. It's because people hate change that Windows still has it's old look and feel which is getting dated when you compare to OS X. Sometimes Apple doesn't get it right but as they iterate more changes things eventually get better than they were before. (eg. iMovie) Instead of saying "take me back to what it used to be!" or, "how do I get back to the past?" Start thinking, "how can I use what they gave me to be more productive?" I personally always saw little value in both Spaces and Mission Control no matter how many times I tried to use them so it's probably not the best example, however show all application windows actually does help me. In my case I rarely need a thumbnail of everything that's open on my screen. Instead I need to find a missing window from my current application. (These windows always seemed to get lost when I split between spaces/desktops which is why I personally find Spaces/MC confusing.) It's not so much a question of how can I convince Apple to revert to SL but how much more productivity can I eek out of what's new in Lion. There's so much to love about Lion and the new iOS that I don't understand why people get hung up over little things that work different.

I'm just sick of this answer. That's all. Every single message board has like 12 people posting this nonsense comment not realizing that obviously the problem wouldn't exist and there would be no forum post if the solution was that simple.

Then why keep revisiting the threads on this topic when you know there is no answer because you know there is no Expose in Lion? It seems it would save you a lot of stress.

I have a snow leopard machine and have zero intention to ever upgrade to Lion unless this problem is resolved. I also don't really care to keep up to date with developments on that end at least actively speaking. But I am subscribed on this thread in case someone actually posts something that may indicate that Apple has come to their senses.

So maybe someone will have info on an update that may be coming or maybe they're working on it for the next operating system. So I'm merely just waiting to hear something along those line. I also want to see how much more complaining people do because if enough people are upset about it, maybe something gets resolved.

Have a look at Apple's preview of Mountain Lion. It shows Mission Control. If you are using Snow Leopard, then perhaps post in the Snow Leopard Forums. Spaces and Expose have gone. It is as simple as that. Do you really think a handful of people out of all the Apple users in the world will sway the developers? Mission Control will be advanced to something else one day more than likely, but it won't be the clumsy old combination of Spaces and Expose. Anyway, this is a waste of time now, Lion has been around for nine months, which is a long time in Computing. If you are happy with SL then use it, but don't keep telling Lion users what they need or should have.

Out of here too. Boring

IDK if you've figured it out yet, but I just did, and it's so easy!

Just place four fingers on the trackpad and expand as if you were enlarging a page. Then all your windows should hit the sides like in expose. To bring them back, just bring your fingers close again.

I admit, I really, REALLY, miss the one button touch expose of Snow Leopard, but one I figured this out, I was elated.

Hope this helps!

Vista was around for an even longer time.

1 in 10 users "hate" Lion - sure not all are Exposè related.

This conversation needs to stay under Lion and follow it up the Mountain too. Even if we ignore history, either Apple or an app developer might realise that there is extra money to be made by addressing some of Lion's issues (eg. Exposè). In other words - I agree with @andyzaky.

The developer of ReSpace has already stated he's working on Expose(all apps!!!) for a coming ReSpace update.

The developer has also made this page, of which he adds upcoming features to:

I couldn't find the Exposé referrence, maybe it is elswhere? ...in a tweet...

Thanks for the link - i'll keep an eye on that developer.

i say thank you to mr http://switchstep.com/ReSpaceApp!

i cant wait for a (nearly) full working "old" expose and spaces.

it is funny. in leopard there came at the end a 800 kb large plug in for spaces. now respaceapp is less larger.

for me it seems apple is not really interested in any professional users anymore. maybe only for marketing reasons. apple earns its money with stupid pseudo power users.

if they would really interested in professionals it would have been really easy to integrate old spaces and expose in system preferences with a few clicks. but they dont!

for me using os x at work all day mission control was a smash in my face and handicapping. i now use less windows and use good old "cmd + h" like in tiger. mission control makes me really angry, it feels like using a body part after a brain stroke.

i hope respaceapp will develop well. i will pay for this app, if it works fine!

and if mountain lion is the next step to ios, or after mountain lion there will be ios only, i will go to a unix distribution.

apple always patronized its users, but with lion it was a bit to much. especially for professionals. crazy. if they stay on this way, they will go the same way like microsoft did.

You should seriously consider going back to Snow Leopard - you won't regret the improvement.

Me too.

If you took your friends with you to Microsoft/Linux, then Apple would sit up and listen! For every expert user there would be a much larger number of people that rely on their advice...

For what it's worth, I solved the spaces problem by mapping two keys. However, it would totally suck if I happened to use them for something else, so I understand your pain if you're still looking for a different solution. Here are the two very simple mapping that made (almost) everything okay between me and Lion:

Mission Control ⌘Space

Show Desktop (I use this alot, but I understand if others don't) ⌥Space

-also (by default I think)-

Move left a space ⌃ ←

Move right a space ⌃ →

So, this, combined with Dock Icon > Options > Assign to (this/all) Desktops, makes Mission Control totally useable for me. It's actually a really nice combination of expose and spaces, once you get used to it. HOWEVER!!! When you have more than one window open in an application (say Preview, for instance), I can't figure out how to spread them out to see all of them to save my life. Without reading 7 pages of nitpicky crap, I'm pretty sure this is the same problem everyone else is having with MC, and it's nearly impossible to work around. If anyone has a SOLUTION (read... not an opinion on people having a problem) please post your useful and awesome information here.

If you do not have a solution, a simple "no" would suffice. Keep your opinions to yourself or go live in the Linux world where everyone is mean and snarky to each other. We should all strive to keep the Apple community helpful and positive, so be nice.
