Major mouse issues in Lion

Same issues here. I've gone from an Apple wireless mouse to an Apple USB mouse, and back again, thinking it would help. My issues are so intermittent and random though that it's almost impossible to troubleshoot. My Apple keyboard has been acting up lately as well.

I've used only Apple mice, no 3rd party anything. I'd say one of the below issues happen once for every 3-5 hours of computer time.

My issues include:

- Mouse pointer disappearing randomly

- Mouse pointer zipping across the screen out of nowhere

- Scroll up not working randomly

- Right-click stops working randomly

- Main-click stops working randomly

Apple's never released an OS I've had issues with like I'm having with Lion. Even after a HD wipe and clean install, it still acts up. Jeez.

I'm another who has suffered from the lost time, the unneccesary erasure/recover rigamaroll and unplugging my 3rd monitor has done the trick.... for now... at least....please may it last.

I spent hours on the phone with apple this morning after a Lion install brought me to the "Welcome / Willkomen" screen when you first set up your computer. I was horrified when I saw this. I wentbvthrough the steps knowing well enough I shouldn't have to be doing this - all the while suffering from the dredded sporadic mouse. Once a new user was set up I went straight to my apps - NOTHING! well nothing worth while.... none of MY apps.

I shut down and booted up as a firewire drive (holding down T) and sure enough the volume had all of my apps, my original user profile - everything in a recovered folder. I went to boot up again to the start up disk and could only access the Mac OS X utillies on the recovery partition - no system drive was found! I verified and repaired and all reported just fine - still nothing! Except for the sporadic mouse.

Hours on the phone with Apple, they had me do everything I had already done - still no new results. they threw their arms up. The phrase genius is wildly abused.

I restored from a time machine back up - backj to 10.6.8 - and upon my 3rd restart the problem had returned. That's when I found this thread.

I UNPLUGGED MY EXCESS MONITORS AND THE PROBLEM STOPPED - for now.

Honestly, I hope I won't be back to discuss this further!

Been following this thread for weeks. Haven't seen much mention of magic mouse wireless connection switching on and off. I will get that "connection lost" graphic notice and then after waiting a period of time the "connected" notice. This seems to come and go regularly and is quite frustrating. Have tried substituting a different magic mouse and the same problem occurs. Meanwhile, the jerky mouse continues endlessly. It's very frustrating.

Hey axcurtis, it sounds like you might have 2.4ghz interference issues. Try disconnecting any wireless decides near your mouse/Mac like routers, cordless phones, etc. might help!

I was having major mouse issues for the past 3 months. When I hook up a 2nd monitor the problem is there. When I unplugged it, the problem was gone. I bought the Accell B087B-006B and 6 ft DVI-D Single Link LCD Flat Panel Monitor Cable - M/M for about $35. I figued it was worth a shot after reading your post. After months of trying other stuff that was recommended, I finally am back to a dual monitor setup without the Mouse freezing and jumping all over the place! I was about to buy a replacement monitor to see if it would solve the problem. I'm glad I was able to solve this cheaply. I can finally work with 2 monitors again, I can never go back to a single monitor!! Thanks!! 🙂 😁

BTW, I also use streermouse because I can never get the default mouse driver in OSX to behave the way I want. 🙂

WOW, I have been using Spotify for about 3 months without iTunes and I thought the issue had been resolved when I got this new mouse at about the same time. I cancelled my spotify subscription and started using iTunes just a couple days ago and the skipping started back up. I just quit iTunes after reading this and boom, it's working fine again!

I suspect this is a video memory issue, iTunes hogs up a good bit, and with the secondary display running as well, it's maxed out. With the fast scrolling, and the particular points where it flickers (aka, over anchors and :hover events), it tells me that the graphics card is being overloaded.

Many of you may have experienced a benefit from a refresh, restart, sleep mode, etc, but that's only b/c it's freeing up some VRAM for the moment. There isn't going to be a real solution to this expect for Apple to provide better memory allotment and managment to USB devices. But, this won't be an easy fix, and with the rather small number of people complaining, I wouldn't expect to see this anytime soon. Not to mention, Apple is probably banking on future graphics card upgrades to solve this issue.

I know myself and others here did not have this problem running Snow Leopard. To suggest that we just give up because it is to hard a fix is wrong. We need to continue to send feedback reports to Apple. I have had this problem with 2 different machines, numerous mice, and at no time was I running iTunes when it happened. Apple does care about it's users no matter how small a number we are. I suspect this will get fixed eventually but not if we don't continue to let them know there is a problem (software problem, NOT hardware.)

At no point did I say that this IS an iTunes issue. I said that closing iTunes fixed it for me, and that's b/c iTunes hogs up a good bit of VRAM. The issue is hardware, which is why nearly everyone in here states that they have an external display. And the proportion of users affected by this is, unfortunately, very low. From a technical perspective, I wouldn't look to see this fixed anytime soon. You can yell and scream all you want, but when it comes to making the business decision on Apple's part to devote the engineering efforts required to fix an issue for 5k upset people, it's unlikely to happen.

My suggestion is to find a way to free up some video memory on your system until you can upgrade to a system that can better handle the requirements. It appears to be a hardware issue, and yes, it could be blamed on the software as well, but b/c of the complexities of fixing the software side here, I'd look more towards the hardware for now.

Silly attitudes aside, I agree with oojacoboo's assessment.

Basically, the issue isn't soley hardware or software related, it's a problem with both. The symptoms of them problem are that of hardware performance (laggy updates to the screen, jittery pointer movement, weird audio stuttering, etc), but the fact that it DID work on Snow Leopard suggests that some changes in the OS software has caused the problems.

Anyway, the squeeky wheel gets the grease so keep letting Apple know of your issues!

My exact point, whatever the cause we should keep letting Apple know about this despite our low level (5K) I believe it was said by oojacoboo.

The 5k was nothing more than a random guess. But this would be people with usb mice and external displays, and presumably with macbooks as well, since I don't see any desktop having these issues b/c of the hardware superiority. This number is probably higher in actuality, but the number of users knowingly experiencing it is likely much lower than the actual.

Nonetheless, it's annoying, we can all agree there.

I have had this problem with 2 desktop machines since I upgraded to Lion. I have just unplugged the second monitor since I can't use the computer with 2 displays under Lion. This affects desktops as well as the macbook pro and the air. I have considered buying the active cable mentioned in a earlier post but not sure about throwing away $30 to see if that method works.

Boom! I may have found a fix for this.

I've had my machine for about 6 months, and about 90% of the time when I'd resume the machine from sleep, my cursor had despaired, and I had to logout to bring it back. I have been doing this about five times a day for the past 6 months, and it had been driving me mad.

In any case, a few days ago my USB Bluetooth dongle(http://www.ebay.com/itm/Class1-bluetooth-usb-adapter-Dongle-Antenna-RT-BT004-/25 0800957310?pt=US_Flashlights&hash=item3a64e6e77e#ht_3296wt_1165) arrived in the post, and I plugged it in, and paired it with an Apple Trackpad. This was about a week ago, and my cursor hasn't despaired once since.

I've tried to isolate the problem by removing the Bluetooth dongle, and going back to a USB mouse to see if the problem would come back, but it hasn't.

My guess still however, is the hidden cursor has something to do with a Bluetooth mouse - hopefully others will be able to try that one out and verify if that's a real fix, or just a one off for me.
