iTunes 10.4 can't drag songs into playlists

There is one glaring difference in the new iTunes 10.4 (80). I can't drag songs from one playlist to another. It doesn't matter whether the source is a smart playlist or a regular dumb one, or even the main music library.

smart playlist or dumb playlist or even the main music library) into other (dumb) playlist.

As a workaround, I can copy (cmd-c) and paste (cmd-v), but this is ... umm ... sub-optimal, because you have to change playlists to do it. Then when you go back to the first folder, any search you might have used before is now gone.

Is there any way to bring back drag and drop? Some weird .plist hack or anything?

agreed. I can't believe this has gone unresolved for this amount of time.

iTunes has become a relic, but due to market dominance and proprietary control we have few options. There are so many things in the interface that need remodling, and unlike those original avocado wall ovens in the unrenovated 70's house you're buying, there's never going to be anything cool again about how poorly this program functions.

Select the songs you want in your new Playlist. If the songs aren't already grouped together, click the first song to select it, and then Shift-click the last song to select all of the songs between - or, click the first song to select it, and then Command-click the rest of the songs you want. (it should look like this)

  • You then drag your group of songs to the Playlist heading on the left in the source list.
  • Notice that the red badge at the bottom right play list file icon has the number of song file you are dragging.

Notice now that the red badge with the number of song file has a green badge with a plus symble. This means that you will be creating a new playlist from the dradded files. If the songs belong to the same artist and album, that information will be used in the titling of the playlist.

If the songs belong to the same artist and album, that information will be used in the titling of the playlist. Because I dragged Darryl Hall and John Oats, that information was used to create the title for the play list.

I hope this clarifies the previous post I submitted in from JEFF GAMET way back in December. This method of Dragging & Dropping Playlist works with the lates version of iTunes.
