Volume control problem in Lion

I tried almost everything in this thread, and none of it worked for me. I think what happened for my case is that I was editing in Premier Pro CS6, and I changed the audio preferences in PPCS6, and in System Preferences, while editing on an external hard drive. I then shut down the computer before ejecting the hard drive.

When I started the computer back up with the hard drive not attached, the system would not play audio. But after attaching the hard drive, and restarting the computer, it appeared to work.

Lesson learned? Eject hard drives before shutting down in Lion while using CS6.

1. I enabled the F1, F2, etc keys to function as standard function keys option.

2. I held down the fn key and the shift key to increase/decrease volume (using fn+shift let's you increase/decrease volume without the sound effects.

3. I plugged in earphones and played a song on iTunes then increased/decreased volume via keys + fn-key

4. I unplugged the earphones and set the function keys back to the previous behaviour and the sound controls worked fine ever since, even after restarts

That saved my day!

And allso...insert and remove headphones jack more "gently"...it looked like 2 work allso 😝...don´t ask me why...maybe an electrical defect?

- i plugged the headphones back in to the computer and started playing some music.

- while the music was playing, i adjusted the volume.

- finally, while the music was still playing, i removed the headphones from the jack, and this time, the volume buttons continued to work.

This one finally worked! (I removed Boom beforehand though).

keepalive to TRUE works on Mavericks too!

This works. But after you restart, it goes back to the same state.
