Tascam US-122 with Lion

I have a 2009 intel iMac. After upgrading to Lion, my usb audio interface, a Tascam US-122 running the3.40 Mac OS driver from Tascam, no longer powers-up. I'e tried direct connection to the iMac as well as running through a powered USB hub. Any thoughts?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7)

Latest response after having a go at them again is this:

Dear Customer,

Unfortunately that unit has been discontinued for a few years now and we are no longer developing drivers for it but you can boot Mac OSX Lion in 32 bit mode which should make the US-122 work on the system as long as you have the latest drovers installed. To boot the Mac in 32 bit mode hold down the 3 and the 2 buttons while starting up.

Thank you for your interest in Teac/Tascam products. If you need further assistance feel free to call us at 323-727-7617 or e-mail us at Custser@teac.com

I haven´t tried this yet, just about too!

Thanks, craigfrommostoles. That answers my question.

One thing to keep in mind, folks, is Tascam's position in all of this. If they spend the money to update the driver, none of us buy one of their new products and they loose money. If they don't spend the money to update the driver, none of us buy one of their new products (disillusioned, we go w/ a different brand) and they are out money. It's lose-lose for Tascam.

At lease we have Apple's boot-to-32bit mode.

It's not exactly lose-lose ... more like LOSEBIG-losesmall. If they spend the money to update the driver, we won't buy new Tascam hardware right now to solve our immediate problem with OSX 10.7 Lion, but we will still consider buying Tascam products in the future when we want to expand or upgrade our systems.

For example, I have three US-122s and two US-122Ls. Whenever I needed another interface, I got another Tascam product, because I thought it was a good investment. Now, I will think twice about buying Tascam.

(My experience with their non-support of GigaStudio didn't help, either.)

I agree it´s a short term solution while we all ponder on the next move! For me it´s crystal clear, Tascam will not be apart of that equation. I find it hard to fathom why i should disregard a perfectly good piece of equipment due to discontinuing support! I mailed Tascam support sending them this link so they were more than aware that they´re got up people noses!!!

If cost is the issue for Tascam, then I would be willing to pay a reasonable fee for an updated driver. Disposable hardware is not very green business on their part (should we start thinking of Tascam products as 'disposable'?). I understand when the hardware ports change, one is forced to toss old equipment, but when it's only a software update issue, it is wasteful.

I'm trying to using it in the latest version of Logic Express, really I just need to be able to record guitar and vocals, as my keyboard is USB. I'm also using the latest firmware which is 1.12 I believe and it still says that this device is not detected.

Forgive me because I really know nothing about technical audio terms, but could you make it to where you could at least plug condenser mics into the XLR inputs?

So a work around I just got to work is booting the os in 32 bit mode by holding down 3 & 2 after the apple chime. You can look up more details on how to tell if its in 32 bit mode but once it is the tascam driver will work again since it is 32 bit. I was pretty bummed untill I figured this out. Hope this gets people back recording

/cheers
