Tascam US-122 with Lion

I have a 2009 intel iMac. After upgrading to Lion, my usb audio interface, a Tascam US-122 running the3.40 Mac OS driver from Tascam, no longer powers-up. I'e tried direct connection to the iMac as well as running through a powered USB hub. Any thoughts?

Agree that it is a shame that Tascam is not supporting the device now. Good hardware, but I've never been very happy with the software/support. That being said, booting my MacBook Pro into Lion in 32 bit mode as described above seems to work just fine: the US-122 is visible again as an input device in my sound pane in System Preferences and seems to work fine with all my audio programs again.

I have spent a lot of time latley trying to figure out how to get this to work and finally figured it out. The problem is that the Tascam driver does not support 64 bit. You can either create a partition on you HDD and install Leopard, or boot in 32 bit mode. To do this, you hold the 3 and the 2 buttons down while powering on. You can then connect with usb port. Mine takes 5-10 seconds before it recognized it, but it DOES work. If that does not work, try using a powered usb hub.

thanks, it is nice to know there is a workaround, but it doesn't really make sense for me since the daw and software I want to use is 64bit audio apps. TASCAM needs to shape up and get with it, 64 bit has been coming a long time and if that is all it is then they should have it fixed by now. The product has been on the market for a long time.

Still, I'm going to try your suggestion and see if that works. Thank you.

I have found that the MKII driver works with Lion and Snow Leopard. Has anyone else found this to be true?? I have two macs One new 2012 Macbook Pro running Lion and another older mac in the studio running Snow Leopard. I installed the driver 2.0 from the Tascam site. It says that is for the MKII series but works perfectly on both of my Macs. I hope this is helpful to someone. My son has the older us-122 and did the same thing and it worked on his Macbook Air.

I bought a US-122, but a few years later found that it did not work any longer when I upgraded to Snow Leopard (Mac OSX 10.6). So I bought a US-122L, now, less than two years later, I find that it no longer works under Mac OSX Lion (10.7). What I want to know is this. What is wrong with Tascam hardware designs that cause a simple hardware device to completely break under a very minimal update to the Mac OS? The jump from 10.6 to 10.7 is hardly a huge jump, and there is no reason why I should have to buy another piece of hardware each time the OS is updated. I assure you all, Tascam has lost me entirely as a customer.

Hi Chris,

Seems the Tascam site is a bit of a mess. These were the drivers I downloaded, and was able to get to work with the US-122L:

http://tascam.com/content/downloads/products/312/TASCAM_US-122MKII_US-144MKII_Dr iver_2.00.dmg

Where as, the ones that are on the US-122mkii page that you went to, are these:

http://tascam.com/content/downloads/products/204/TASCAM_US-122MKII_US-144MKII_Dr iver_2.00.dmg

Not sure at all what the difference between the DMG files would be. They have the same file name.

Try the first link, and let me know if those work for you.

Rexaronie,

If you just purchased a TASCAM unit I highly recommend you return it. I just got off the phone with TASCAM support, again, and they told me to return the unit. I've had two already (US-800).

I know the price is attractive on these boxes, but there is a reason for the price being so low...

I exchanged mine for a PreSonus Audiobox 44vsl and have had no trouble all day long, running Lion 10.7.3. It cost me an extra hundred bucks, but it is worth it. The US-800 was driving me absolutely nuts.

The TASCAM is a royal PITA and does not work, you'll spend all your time trying to figure it out but it just doesn't work. Phone support is a waste of time since they have zero ability to do anything except tell you to try a different USB cable.

Honestly a terrible experience and I'm surprised that a name like TASCAM, which has been around for ages, has such a terribly supported product on the market. The hardware seems nice enough and is really cheap, but what good is cheap if it doesn't work?
