OK, I have checked and the power button work around works for me. My father was having the same problem and it works for him too. I have Apple wifi and he has 3rd party. Hitting the space bar doesn't work right, beware.
Good luck, apple support manager tried to tell me it was my hardware card but I do not believe him as a lot of people have this problem after switching to Lion. So far the only way I can get this to work is to run a cable from my router to the back of my iMac.
in fact the problem comes from the firewall blocking the traffic and though bocking the DHCP and their for no IP address is being assigned.
solution is to go to the security & privecy then firewall and when inside make sure its enabled then click advanced and check the box that blocks all traffic, click ok now go to the betwork and try to renew the DHCP and it will work!
you have to go back to the firewall settings again and remove the block all traffic again... :-)
it looks like after the 10.7.3 the firewall list was updated with deny all and this resets the list back to normal, it worked for me

The support guy from Apple I talked to is aware of this problem and says a bug report has been filed. Just appeared in the last OS update for me. The reply toward the front of this page is best, the OS acts differently if you generate a keyboard event then using the power button, to wake the computer up from sleep mode.
These steps did not work for me. The problem persists. The power button wake up is still my only friend.
We are LogoSystems, an Apple Authorised Service Provider.
We had a customer in our workshop today with exactly the same problem.
Try this........
In Mac O/S X Lion go to "Finder" (Click on the desktop and make sure the word to the right of your Apple Menu says "Finder")
Hold down the Alt Key and go to the "Go" menu
Select "Library"
Open the "Application Support" Folder
Move the folder named "SyncServices" to the desktop
Restart your Mac.
Let us know what happens..... service@logosystems.co.uk
Worked for us !
Matt,
Those steps didn't work for me.
Something odd did come up in the post....
The e-mail notification I received was exactly as posted above with the exception of the file "Ubiquity" in place of "SyncServices". Which folder should be moved? I moved "SyncServices" as stated in the post, and there was no difference. In fact, the folder re-spawned at the next login.
Thanks anyway!
I just had a chat with the guys in the office and we have another issue like this which is ongoing and is not solved by moving SyncServices.
The set up is MacBook Air 11" (ThunderBolt)
Mac O/S 10.7.2
The Mac will join his office Wifi all day with no trouble but when he goes home it doesn't auto connect. He has to select the Wifi netork from the menu and it then joins up. However as soon as he puts the Mac to sleep for more than a few minutes it won't auto rejoin. He then has to reselect the home Wifi network.
It then works fine. It's almost like there is no fault, just an annoying step involved to make it work and we understand this to be massively frustrating.
So far we have proved that if we create a test User account and work from that it works perfectly. It is now a case of us finding the offending item which will probably be in the User Library. As soon as we solve it I will get back to you.

On my 2011 macbook air I can now relaiably reproduce the problem and fix it by disabling bluetooth.
To reproduce the problem I just have to re-enable bluetooth, close the lid, wait 30-40 mins, then open the lid again and it won't connect to wifi automatically after waking. (The wait seems to be necessary so it is no longer associated with the wireless network, and I'm not waking with keyboard or mouse).
Unfortunately, I can't try the power button fix as it requires closing and lifting the lid which covers the power button when closed.
Thanks Marcelo, This is really useful.
Our one does the same.
So we went to the Bluetooth System Preference
Clicked Advanced
DeActivated all the tick boxes.
I can now leave the Bluetooth turned on and it still reconnects to the Wifi after a 30 minute sleep.
I'll turn them back on one at a time over the next few days and hopefully will be able to let you know which one causes it.
Matt
If you go to.........
Apple Menu - System Preferences - Bluetooth - Advanced
Then uncheck the box at the bottom for
On Bluetooth-PDA-Sync Modem
to turn it off.
This solves the problem. (Unless of course you want to hook up a PDA) !!

Hey Matt,
I will test your fix and update the results here.
This solution didn't work for me. Still, the ole faithful power button is the only way to wake my iMac and have the wireless reconnect automatically.
Matt,
I didn't try unchecking all the boxes as described. If the "wake by bluetooth" option is disabled, then the power button is the only way to wake, which is where I'm at now.
This problem isn't a show stopper, but it is pretty frustrating as the solution should be pretty simple for Apple to address.
My fix is for a MacBook Air which has its own keyboard and can be awoken simply by opening the lid.
If you try this solution which I posted a bit later on it may work for you.........
Leave the "Allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer" switched on.
If you go to.........
Apple Menu - System Preferences - Bluetooth - Advanced
Then uncheck the box at the bottom for
On Bluetooth-PDA-Sync Modem
to turn it off.
This solves the problem. (Unless of course you want to hook up a PDA) !!

Tried this on my iMac and was excited at first. First attempt at waking with my bluetooth trackpad re-connected to my wi-fi! I then tried waking with my wired keyboard and it didn't work. All subsequent attempts at waking with my trackpad did not work either. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Again, any suggestions Apple?
