Turning off iCloud is just temporary. We just want to isolate the cause of the processor usage spike. If you see my post earlier in this thread, the iCloud sync agent for safari bookmarks was using up all the processor and causing major slowdowns and heavy fan usage. So we want to see if you have a corrupted file that may need to be recreated in order to fix this iCloud issue until apple builds in its own fix.

I'll try to look into this when I am more awake:) 🙂

BTW, who is WE in your Reply?! Sometimes I wonder if some posts are being replied to by Apple itself...

Either way, I am glad I found this Page, and I hope this is fixed soon! Like I wrote, when things are OK, my MBP 17, maxed out is incredible, so it's only natural to want it to be perfect all the time!!!

I open the Activity Monitor and saw the safari using 75% of my memory maxing to 100%sitting on the apple home screen. I killed it and memory drop to 15/20%. I tryed it different ways witht the same result. I even left it a couple of times and with out failure the mac gave the messsage "your mac os x startup disk has no more space available for application memory" and eventually locked up. I start looking into this because I kept getting that message and my mac would freeze. I restart and it seem to run fine then the same thing again. I look at the activity log and saw that SafariDAVclient and safari was consuming the memory, I close safari and notice that SafariDAVclient was consuming all the memory by it self then I restart and SafariDAVclient keep start back up by itself will the computer eventually freezing. I force kill it and my fan quieted immediately and member usuage drop to 20%. Left it on over night with no freezing. Then tried open safari and left it for about and hour on the apple home screen and it froze and repeated several times with the same results. I then install groom and try the same test and been running fine for 2 days

What do I do if I can't even get in to Safari? I can't even open it now, but SafariDAVClient has no problem opening on its own and consuming 15GB of memory while nobody is on my computer.

I can't believe that Apple STILL hasn't fixed this problem. Between phone calls, "Genius"bar visits, complaints here and the reports people submit after it crashes. Yet here we are, still desperately for an answer to this on our own. I've very disgusted with Apple lately.

Excellent suggestion Jack! I'd note the respective bookmarks.plist is in the ~/Library/Preferences/Safari folder.

I use a 3rd party utility called App Tamer I've found quite useful in pausing windowed and background processes when not in use. I paused SafariDAVClient and I noticed the difference in Safari's performance.

I followed your tips and restarted my system to see if the SafariDAVClient process would resume as I have iCloud Safari syncing back on after your instructions, and nope, not running.

I can't help but wonder, and will monitor if running Address Book and/or Calendar drives the SafariDAVClient process? When I went to turn off Safari iCloud syncing, I got some erros for both these programs (and Address Book was open, but not Calender).

Thanks again.
