Audio Popping after Lion Upgrade

I seem to be having a bit of an audio glitch in both iTunes and Quicktime Player since upgrading to OS X Lion. The popping and skipping comes and goes, and quitting and restarting the affected program will make it go away for a while, but it comes back soon after that.

Does anyone know what is causing it and if a fix or workaround is available yet?

I'm having the same issue, I think. iTunes playback is now glitching, muting, ticking. It's like the processor is maxing out. If I tax the processor by scrolling up and down rapidly in a browser whilst iTunes is playing, I get the audio glitches. Activity monitor shows that both cores of my Core2Duo (3.06Ghz) are hitting the ceiling at that point. iTunes didn't do that under Snow Leopard.

Also note: Audio glitches don't seem to appear on any of my AirPort Expresses, only the iMac's audio.

Hi,

I have the same kind of issue. The "popping" seems to happen on in all different kinds of apps, sling player, chrome, firefox, or heck even when I get an email the chime makes the popping noise. I am not sure how to recreate the problem, but it just seems random. Sometimes if I just use mission control to go to a different screen will make it go away. Or a reboot does it. Never had the issue in Snow Leopard, just when I went too Lion.

Same problem here. i7 8gig ram 2011 iMac. I am using an M Audio Interface (External Audio Card) but didn't have any problems in Leopard. I upgraded to Lion drivers for the device. I haven't tried seeing if the poping occurs without using the interface yet though. I am really disappointed with Lion so far...using my 6 year old pc laptop at the moment just so I can use the internet....

I also have popping/clicking in many forms of sound/video after Lion upgrade. iMac 2.66GHz Core 2 duo, 6g ram

Putting the computer to sleep and waking it works for a time, but it eventually returns.

A quicker fix which likely does the same thing is to send a kill -9 signal in Terminal.app to the "coreaudiod" process and force it to restart.

nestor:~ fbhjr$ ps aux | grep coreaudio _coreaudiod 60080 1.0 0.1 2453812 6436 ?? Ss 11:32AM 0:06.78 /usr/sbin/coreaudiod

nestor:~ fbhjr$ sudo kill -9 60080

This is obviously a problem that has developed over time.. When I first upgraded to Lion the popping was not there then after a couple of weeks it began... In my case it seems to be the audio card is turning off and on. randomly. I haven't timed it but there seems to be a definite time between when I click into a program and it cuts on and then it cuts off.... It hasn't affected any of my recording it's just super anoying when I'm not recording, especially when you have your recording gear connected to your mac and every few minutes "pop". Help!!!!
