Unfortunately, I have to agree with you Mick_M.
I have recently (April 2012) upgraded from my 2007 Mac Mini to this year's model. While the hardware has increased in power, the software appears not to match it.
I drag and drop large no's of files (anywhere between 3,000 - 25,000) and the copy process freezes. Finder doesn't freeze, but the copy process never finishes.
On my 2007 Mac Mini (10.6) there is no problem (I still have it on backup). However, 10.7 I do not like.
I work in pseudo tech support and when that organisation moved to Windows 7 (from XP) I have had to resort to DOS commands to find files fast since Explorer would take f...o...r...e...v...e...r.
I find myself doing the same for OSX 10.7, not DOS, but creating Automator scripts to move the files...
Given that there are 79 replies to the original post and that I have suffered with this issue since purchase and only sought assistance now - I am guessing there are many, many more people experiencing frustration with this.
My experience is in moving files between folders on my Mac Mini's hard drive, so the issue must be in Finder. It's not a hardware problem: my current Mac Mini has 8GB of RAM at 2.3GHz on Quad core. My old Mac Mini has 2 GB of RAM at 1.8 GHz on Dual core.
I'm not going to bash the Apple brand. But it does make me wonder where Apple is heading...
I would encourage Apple to make sure the basics work before they add the 'bells and whistles'. If the basics don't work then the difference between Apple and its competitors are magnified. I moved to Apple due to stability risks in basic functions on non-Apple systems (July 2007). That was the key difference for me.
Please address this issue Apple. I really do love my Mac Mini, but I really am after a computer which performs its basic functions without operator pain.
