Problems with Lion Bluetooth Connection

I have a very annoying problem with Bluetooth in Lion. When I put my MacPro to sleep it loses contact with both my Mighty Mouse and my trackpad. I have a wired keyboard so am able to navigate through to system preferences, where it tells me that the name of the computer under Bluetooth has changed to some random letters and numbers (always the same ones). Sometimes switching Bluetooth off and on fixes it but not always. Bluetooth Setup assistant does not launch, even though it should.

I have tried re-installing the bluetooth devices, trashing the Bluetooth preferences in the main Library as well as my account and my wife's. I have no idea why this has started or how to fix it.

Has anyone else seen this problem? If so any suggestions how I fix it or do I have to wait on Apple for 10.7.1 (or later)? I may have to dig out my old USB mouse if this can't be fixed soon.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

Try ENABLING the "Allow Devices to Wake This Computer" checkbox in the Advanced pane of the Bluetooth preferences and see if you still have the issue. if you DO still have it, open Activity Monitor, and see if "blued" is running.

I totally agree with Stephen. I switched fairly late to wireless; March 2009 to be exact. When BT works, it works wonderfully, when it doesn't, well, I have to also drag out the wired mouse and keyboard. I consider them both as much a part of my "troubleshooting" kit as I do a copy of Disc Warrior.

This is across three major versions of OS X, untold number of point releases for each, three differant computers and at least 5-6 different-branded mice and keyboards. It's not anywhere near frequent enough for me to want to go back to wired, but as I said, I don't think I can ever ditch the wired backups.

I'm now running OS X 10.7.3 on a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 13" and have had problems with the Bluetooth connection ever since installing 10.7.2. The connection to my Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 cuts out randomly in the middle of mousing around the screen (I've checked kernel.log after this happens and have seen no errors). My MacAlly bluetooth keyboard, oddly enough, will always wake the machine from sleep but then the connection will cut out immediately thereafter. It often takes several tries to reconnect the keyboard. Both mouse and keyboard have "Allow this device..." turned on and both are Favorites. I've tried shutting off computer, keyboard, and mouse and then bringing everything back up -- to no avail. I find this exceedingly aggravating. It's good to know that I'm not the only one having Bluetooth problems, but I'm a little bent that Apple hasn't seen fit to address something that is plaguing a lot of users, judging from this and other threads.

I am running an imac with Lion 10.7.4 with a Macally Bluetooth Keyboard and an Apple Bluetooth Mouse. The mouse works well but seems to use up batteries fairly quickly. The Macally keyboard has massive troubles connecting and sometimes disconnects for no particular reason. The dialog box for bluetooth shows the keyboard connected when it is not. it is sometimes difficult to disconnect in the bluetooth module so I can try to connect so that it works. I am typing with it now.

It is very frustrating to try and use the system. A dump of the errors in Console kernel.log follows. I sure hope Apple fixes this problem much sooner than later. It appears to have been a problem since 2005 according to the posts in this forum.

I had been using my wireless keyboard and trackpad for years until this morning. Clicking on the bluetooth icon would show the spinning ball and be very sluggish. The mouse was erratic and I couldn't use two fingers to scroll, even though it was set up for that. I reloaded several times, disconnected and reconnected my keyboard/trackpad several times. It was still happening. I reset the SMB and it works fine now.

Thanks!!!
