Everybody settle down about Lion!

So far Lion has been out for 4 days, sure there are going to be bugs its the first version of a new operating system!, of course everything isnt going to be perfect. Apple is already seeding (or about to seed) 10.7.2 for developers and this should fix some bugs and problems.

People need to settle down about simple little bugs, i have two macs that i upgraded a couple of days ago and so far havent had any bugs whatsoever, and even if i come across some i certinetly wont retreat back to Snow Leopard.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

I did find this very nice post while googling around.... http://www.eggfreckles.net/tech/burning-a-lion-boot-disc/

A word of caution: I burned a boot disk and it does indeed boot; however, it does not appear to contain a full install because it spent more than an hour "downloading additional components"; after that, the dialog changed to "installing" for about 34 minutes. My take from that is that it is much like the just released Recovery disk Assistant - more of a helper to get you booted and then downloads what it needs from the app store before proceeding with the install.

Further to my previous postings I now have my iMac back, hard drive replaced. Apple loaded Lion on to it. Said all was OK. It's not, the Lion problem still exists as before. With peripheral drives plugged in, whether FireWire or USB it keeps going to sleep and waking up almost immediately. I have checked and it was not set to go to sleep nor is it set to waken up if there is some sort of network access. So unless I keep all drives disconnected, not possible as data is on one and another is a backup, it seems like my new hard drive may wear out prematurely.

The other two problems remain - plug TIime Capsule in and it knocks out my WifFi and everybody's WiFi connection, and iCal does not sync.

The local Apple store knew nothing of the reported problems.

I foolishly believed that things couldn't get worse.

I just got this error from Time Machine:

Time Machine completed a verification of your backups. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you.

To improve reliability?

Basically, allowing this to happen will condemn a year's worth of backups (400GB) and commit me to this pile of garbage.

Where was the warning that this 'improvement' was featured in Lion?

I wanted to keep you up to date I posted this on the other discussion forum but I want your thoughts as well as the other Mac users about this iTunes matter as well as the rest of my investigation at the local Applestore. Here it is:I just got back from the Applestore in my area to test the iMacs both 27" and 21.5" to see what they do when put to sleep and then playing video both Flash and.mov. First of all let me preface my remarks by stating 2 things. First of all they erase their drives TOTALLY before they open. They then put in a new Disc Image of Lion on each and every Mac in the store that is on display. This was verified by one of the employees in the store. Before I started to inspect the iMacs I went to a MacMini and put it to sleep woke it up and played Flash and .mov using Quicktime10. It performed well. I then noticed that it did not have the latest version of iTunes. I questioned the same employee about this and he told me that it is to prevent someone stealing the tracks. This made me very suspicious. I believe Lion automatically installs the latest version of iTunes not 10.3.1. I went over to the iMacs. I put a 27" to sleep woke it up and played both a flash and a .mov using Quicktime10. No problems. I did the same with a 21.5" iMac. No problems. I then tried another 21.5" iMac and it froze! Nothing moved. I showed it to the employee and he shut the iMac down and started it up.There is something that makes me suspicious of the iMacs on display. Why don't they have the latest version of iTunes? I think they may be gimmicked up.

I found the perfect solution. After reloading the OS twice due to various errors, including one last night that caused every permission on the system to lock me out of writing to the drive, I reloaded once more and I'm now running Windows 7 on the bootcamp partition. No problems with that but what a shame about Lion. Everyone expects some bugs when a new OS is released but shame on Apple for releasing it before it was ready.

I dont know about itunes but when I had Lion (I downgraded yesterday) my new Imac froze a few times in just one week. It froze when using google maps but in this case it would unfreeze after a while 2/3minutes and it froze at least 3 times when trying to see youtube or youtube video links in Blogs I read every day.

I just hated to constantly have to force shutdown and I am sure it was not healthy for my Imac

Oh BTW I never received the crash reports. I suppose In Lion you dont even have the option of reporting the crashes to Apple (or seeing them) it does it without your consent!!!!!

I have run mac hardware diagnostics and everything seems fine, I doubt its the hardware as its working fine now that I have downgraded to SL. It could be a codec issue or flash in Lion not working properly/incompatible. We need to wait till Apple sorts it out then I may upgrade (again) to lion if they give us options of turning off some of this new stuff, especialy autosave

With SL Its so peacefull and dependable again!!!!! it realy is a great OS

It did not install it automatically with me but when I had finsihed the install it then told me upgrades were needed.

I have now tried the computer without iTunes running and with one or more USB drives plugged in. It makes no difference, the iMac likes to go to sleep and wake up. So its not an iTunes problem. Think I now have two solutions:

1. Write to Apple as it has cots me £144 to replace the hard drive as the Lion problem will not have extended its life, quite the reverse.

2. Await the upgrade to Lion that has to be coming.

Odd that Apple ever released Lion when they did.

Everybody settle down about Lion!
