More fan problems after 10.6.8 update

Hi

I updated to 10.6.8 and, like many others, suffered the Hi temp/fan speed problem caused by the Parallels apps in the doc. Following advice from others in the community I removed the folder and my MBP is a lot cooler but it does not run as it did prior to the update.

Before updating to 10.6.8 the fan never came on, well only during Skype video calls, but now it is on all the time albeit very slowly.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Ok, the fans seem to come on more if Parrallels is run right?

Because of the high CPU speed of the glitchy Parallels and 10.6.8, the computer has remembered that anytime that program is run to expect a high CPU demand so it starts up the fans ahead of time in anticipation.

Check for runaway processes in Activity monitor

Install temp software and give us some idea what your temps are at cold boot, idle web use, video playback

Hi ds store

Thanks for your response.

I think there may be a misunderstanding regarding the nature of the Parallels issue. It was not Parallels the app but the folder containing Parallels applications in the Dock that was causing the problem. Since deleting the offending folder the Hi temps have gone, i.e. the problem I now have is not related to Parallels.

The problem I am left with is that prior to the 10.6.8 update the fans on my Macbook never ran apart from during lengthy Skype video calls. Now the fans run constantly, even when no apps are running.

I have checked for runaway process but there are none.

Both left and right fans are running in a consistently narrow (+/- 2 rpm) range around a constant mean of 2k rpm. While this doesn't produce a lot of noise it is clearly different behaviour from the system before the update.

I'll check out the kb articles you have provided and let you know how I get on.

Thanks for your assistance.

Regards

Baz
