Problems with Canon i-SENSYS MF8030Cn and OS x Lion

I have a Canon i-SENSYS MF8030Cn that ran perfectly before the OS x Lion upgrade. After the upgrade I have major issues with printing. The two errors I get is:

1) First I get a new pop-up telling me to verify the ID and Password.

2) OS x tells me that the printer has problems and that I should try and reconnect the printer to the power grid. And the printer just works fine, I tried it with a PC just berforhand.

Anyone else has this problem?

cheers

/Chris

Dear Pahu,

I have seen your answers which supported many people in a great way, but unfortunately I am still facing problems. I am using a Mac Book and a Canon MF 8380CDw. Everything was working till I reinstalled Lion. Currently I cannot printing, the message pops up 'printer is not responding, check power connection'. Job accounting is not ticked and I have followed your workaround as described 26 July 02.55 about trashing the old drivers and reinstalling the new ones. I also restarted my computer, but nothing solved yet. Do you have any other ideas how to solve this. Would be great! Many thanks from the Netherlands!

Hello Jordie07.

The UFR2 driver relies on the UFR2 Backgrounder service to create the print queue correctly and then allow an application to print to the Canon laser-based device.

With your setup not working then I would suspect this could be the cause. So two things to check;

1. Open System Information (Applications > Utilities) and under the Hardware section in the left sidebar, select the Printers entry. The top right pane will show all the installed printers. Select the MF8380 and then copy what is shown in the bottom right pane and paste back here.

2. Open Activity Monitor and look for UFR2 Backgrounder or CMFP Backgrounder. Do you see either service listed?

Thanks for replying with the information. It would appear that the setup in 1. is correct, although I have not seen the Canon service called cnbmzd. I will have to investigate this further. And it is also good that you see the services in 2.

Is the printer connected by USB or networked?

If it is networked, can you open Print & Scan, select the MF and then open Options & Supplies. And then under the Utilties tab, open the Printer Utility. Does this connect to the printer and show some information, such as paper and toner levels?

Hi Pahu,

Seems like good news, although the problem isnt solved yet. Printer is networked. When I open Options & Supply name is announced 'Canon MF8300C Series'. And when I open the tab, is shown Canon MF8300 series UFRII LT (UK). Then paper source options is ticked as 'none' (I also tried the other option 250 sheet drawer but that doesnt help), job accounting is not ticked and then three fields with paper types are filled.

Have done some testing this morning and the only way I can get your error is to have the printer disconnected from the network. So working on the basis that you have a network issue, can you open Safari and select the Bookmarks icon. In the Collections sidebar, select Bonjour and in the top right pane you should see the MF8300C Series. If you do, select it. This opens the internal web page of the printer.

If you don't see the MF8300C Series in the Bonjour view of Safari, and you know the IP address being used by the MF, then enter the IP address of the MF as the URL in Safari, ex http://ip_address. Does this connect to the printers internal web page?

Hi Pahu, this works. I see the printer and can open the internal page, although then I land on a log in page. Maybe my next respons will be not earlier than monday evening, because we are a few days off. We bring our computer along us, but i dont have a network there and my printer is of course at home.. I really appreciate your help!!

Hi Pahu,

I have exactly same problem as Jordie has + I have tried all your previous instaructions.

Still the problem exists, so answering same questions.

1) I cannot see MF8300C seriers from Bonjour/Safari, but I can see by entering IP-address

I also have paralles and I installed printer without any problems for Win XP.

I also have tried it with USB without any luck...

Any additional ideas?

For the Parallels/WinXP setup, was this with the printer networked or connected via USB?

Since you can see the printer web page by using its IP address, have you tried creating the printer queue by selecting the IP tab and then the LPD protocol? This only requires you to enter the IP address in the hostname field. The queue name can be left blank and the MF8300 selected in the Print Using menu.

Okay, like I asked Jordie, can you open System Information (Applications > Utilities) and under the Hardware section in the left sidebar, select the Printers entry. The top right pane will show all the installed printers. Select the MF83xx and then copy what is shown in the bottom right pane and paste back here.
