Problems with Canon i-SENSYS MF8030Cn and OS x Lion

I have a Canon i-SENSYS MF8030Cn that ran perfectly before the OS x Lion upgrade. After the upgrade I have major issues with printing. The two errors I get is:

1) First I get a new pop-up telling me to verify the ID and Password.

2) OS x tells me that the printer has problems and that I should try and reconnect the printer to the power grid. And the printer just works fine, I tried it with a PC just berforhand.

Anyone else has this problem?

cheers

/Chris

Hi Pahu,

I installed Mac_URII_V230_uk_EN.dmg drivers.

I also once more removed all printers, rebooted and installed printer newly - no change...

Hmm. Not sure what is happening with these MF8xxx series. I don't have one at home so I cannot conduct testing until I get back to work on Monday.

Using Finder, navigate to HD > Library > Printers > Canon > UFR2 > Utilities and open the Printmonitor utility. Does this connect to the MF or give an error?

Hi Pahu,

Could not find any printers to monitor. (even with CUPSCMFP)

I am not happy at all with MF8xxx either. When I bought the printer it only worked with USB, then with current driver it worked untill couple of weeks ago, it stopped just one day about 2 weeks ago (about same time as MS Office update) and now it does not work even with USB...

I am trying to use the printer with my MacBook Pro and I have also Mac Pro where the printer is working fine...

Even printmonitor app.

Hi Pahu and Rippe,

Rippe, sorry to hear you experience the same problems, but I dont feel that alone anymore :-)

I checked the path Pahu suggested and indeed I receive an error, so maybe we are coming closer to the problem. I found the path, but when I click on it I receive the error:

Couldnt find any printer to monitor.

Printmonitor will now be terminated.

Maybe interesting to mention that also our printer was working fine till a few weeks ago, thats extra frustrating and will make me hesitate next time when the system asks for updating again. But for now I am focused in solving the issue. All other functions are working as far as I know, but I printer which is not able to print anymore is like a TV without a screen or a smartphone which cannot call anymore....

Looking forward to your next message!

Have done some testing today and cannot fault the MF8380C on my local network. I don't have an MF80xx series but the machines are the same with regards to the network setup.

With regards to the Printmonitor I got you both to check, it looks like it doesn't work with this series and will give you the "Cannot monitor this printer" message after it opens. But, if you select to print a document and change the print dialog to the Finishing menu, under the image of the piece of paper will be the Printer Info button. Press this and you should see the Printer Information window, showing the device name, the communication method and what accessories are installed. Do you see this?

What I also found is that being able to print to the MF is not dependent on Bonjour working. So while the protocol does help with finding the printer on the network, you can still add the printer using IP > LPD and by entering the IP address of the MF for the Address and selecting either the Canon MF8300 Series UFRII LT or the Canon MF8300C Series in the Print Using menu.

The last thing I want you both to check is the firmware installed on the MF. This can be found by printing a System Manager Data List. On the machine, press the Report button and then select Print Reports and then System Manager Data...

Hi Pahu,

Printer Info shows printer and from configuration is showing only "Communication Method Unidirectional", Paper Source shows paper sources but not amount of remaining paper. This is different what I can see from my Mac Pro.

I have tested all possible combinations of using Bonjour, LPD or HP JetDirect...

Are you refering ROM Controller version?

Main 01.37

Boot 01.11

Thanks for checking that br Risto. With regards to the "Communication Method - Unidirectional", can you confirm if the printer is currently connected to the Mac via USB or is it networked? For a network connection it needs to be Bidirectional, not Unidirectional.

And yes to the ROM Controller Ver. It confirms you have the latest available.

Thanks for the reply. I think that this will be the issue. My connection is using bidirectional.

Do you use any Antivirus software on the MBPro?

What about other software that could block the bidirectional communication, like the built-in firewall or a 3rd party firewall application?
