Emoji in Pages

Hi there,

I was trying to enter some of the new Emoji characters in Lion into a Pages document, but all it displays are blank spaces. It correctly changes the font, but doesn't display anything. Entering Emoji in TextEdit works (through the special characters palette). I'm running the latest Version of iWork (Update 6). Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Fruhulda

No need for question mark.

The late updater is numbered 9.1 but it was delivered as update 6 because it's really the 6th one dedicated to iWork '09.

I guess that they decided to jump in next level in file numbering to make more visible the fact that there is a change in architecture.

We had :

iWork updater 9.0.1

iWork updater 9.0.2

iWork updater 9.0.3

iWork updater 9.0.4

iWork updater 9.0.5

We have now :

iWork updater 9.1.0

next one will be

iWork updater 9.1.1

To be the AW6 successor, iWork MUST integrate a TRUE DB, not a list organizer !

In fact, as Arno wrote that he was running Lion, it was necessarily Pages 4.1.0 because 4.0.5 doesn't apply in this operating system.

I add Amojis to the list of things to watch during the hour dedicated to lion.

I think Apple's emoji font uses some non-standard techniques to generate the color, and it looks like Pages has not yet been updated to recognize it. I have another font called Symbola which has similar glyphs in black/white which does work in Pages.

I don't understand why my message is not here.

To be short, the emojis are pefectly reachable.

Edit > Special Characters… > Emojis > wanted category

I apologize but I can't insert a screenshot from Lion.

I will do that when I will be back in Snow Leopard.

Oops. They are reachable but can't be inserted in Pages.

Right Tom.

Switching between both OS, it seems that I was a bit fooled.

As you are inline, do you know if it's normal that under Lion, when the Spell checker is urged to check and apply corrections on the fly,

in TextEdit, it just underline without correcting

in the Forum's message editor where I'm typing at this time, it does absolutely nothing.

For the Forum's Message Editor I guess that it is because it behaves the same under 10.6.8

but for TextEdit It's odd. Under 10.6.8 the corrections are automatically applied.

When I try to copy a character, I just get a bip.

I tried an alternate scheme :

insert it in TextEdit, Copy then Paste in Pages.

I just get a space character.

For me it's not a problem.

I guess that they built revision 9.1 in a hurry and didn't embed every new features.

Wait and see.
