Can CanoScan Lide 20 work with Lion?

Since installing Lion, my CanoScan Lide 20 is not usable - Canoscan Toolbox software no longer opens; downloaded latest drivers and when trying to install, get error message that PowerPC applications no longer supported. Anybody know of a workaround?

Hi,

did you ever try to use TWAIN Sane interface of http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/

Under supported devices it lists your Canon. I cannot try myself, because at my last visit at my pals house LION was not yet here...

Another way is if you have Parallels or VMware. You can run a Windows instance in the VM. It can take over the USB and do the scan. So you can run the stock Canoscan drivers in Windows in the VM on the Mac.

Again, the Sane drivers do work, but, for me, only through the command-line (terminal) or the "Snac" free program. "Snac" is very limited, but it will do a full-page scan that you can crop in Preview after the fact.

In the Image Capture app, the scan can be distorted if you select "Overview" and then "Scan". However, if you select "Hide Details" and then "Scan", the image is just fine.

Sometimes the "Hide Details" option is greyed out, so just select "Overview" "Scan", let it do it's distorted thing, than scan again using "Hide Details" "Scan" to get the correct image.

Generally, I find that I have to run the 'distorted' image scan now and again - usually if I've updated something.

Hope that helps.

I have a Lide 20 and OsX 10.8 and spent hours trying to get this to work.

I followed the post from ITSMEJULIETTE 6 posts ago and followed the link. Download the 3 packages in the correct order, they all seemed to load OK but when I went to Image Capture (through applications) it couldn't find the scanner.

So I went through Print and Scan (system preferences) and hit the + button and it found it, yeh and it worked, however the interface was a little primitive.

I then rebooted and went through Photoshop File Import SANE and a better interface surfaced. So at least it seems to work OK now, otherwise I was prepared to throw the scanner out. I've only just done this so it's early days and a rather different layout but all seems OK.

Thanks everyone

I tried to scan with Twain Sane for Lion on a HP Scanjet 4500c. The sane-hp5590 backend is supporting the 4500c. But I have the following problems:

1. With the GraphicConverter.app (32bit version) I can use ImageCapture, but the hp scanjet 4500c is not recognized. ImageCapture runs also in 32bit mode. Scanning over TWAIN from the GraphicConverter.app works, but only in black/white and in a little cut-out.

2. In Preferences/Print&Scan I cannot add the Sane icon, I think the 4500c is not recognized.

3. May be, a 64bit version of Twain Sane helps, but I cannot find it.

What is to do?
