Is it any more reliable on a MacBook Air?

I will be getting one for my wife next week and if so may save a bit of frustration to just try then.

It's erratic, nothing to do with the machine as far as I can tell, I have downloaded it on 3 occasions, 1 MBA and 2 MBP, but each one took around 4 hours (including 'retrys')

I had the same problem. I unchecked the box "use passive FTP mode (PASV)" in the Proxies setting and set the Ethernet connection speed (in Hardware) to 100baseTX instead of 1000baseTX. Then the download worked without any problem. There may be a driver problem for the ethernet connection in Mac OSX? Fortunately, I am using Windows 7.

Smaller than I expected for a universal package, perhaps it is geared toward a specific line of Macs?

5 minutes so nothing wrong there, but 600MB seemed smaller than expected for a one size fits all.

I thought so too, im trying them out just now on a clean install of bootcamp/win7 on lion so i could be totally wrong but i found it here on the SU http://swscan.apple.com/content/cata...ed-1.sucatalog so i believe it to be the correct package for lion... Once installed navigate to /library/application support/bootcamp/ etc etc as said on the previous page and the winsupport.dmg file is there...

    I'll post my results...

Glad to know somene testing them out. Off hand, 300MB could be just graphic, then audio and networking can easily eat up 300MB. And it depends on how good compression is.

Tested working, x86 and x64 full driver package for lion...

I had trouble downloading using Boot Camp Assistant, but was able to download the BootCampESD.pkg file from the link in your earlier email; thanks.

However, I noticed that there were not just one but many BootCampESD.pkg files listed in http://swscan.apple.com/content/catalogs/others/index-lion.merged-1.sucatalog.

    It appeared to me that they had different dates, and that the one you linked to may not have been the one with the latest date. (I'm not certain of this because it's not clear whether a date in the XML code there applies to the files above or below.}

Did you just download the first BootCampESD.pkg file you saw, or did you look to find the latest one?

Or do you have some reason to be sure that the contents of them are all the same?

    Thanks!

Hi, I was reading about the same on a different forum, and Timothy Summon has given a detailed answer, so I thought I'd share it here

    http://groups.google.com/group/macenterprise/msg/4df985a358d6022c

"I found several BootCampESD.pkg files. For the moment, product 041-0694 seems to be the generic installer that will run on all hardware but the latest MBA's and Minis. If you grab this pkg installer, extract the .dmg from the installer, you can find the Windows Boot Camp setup files inside. There is a more recent update, dated July 20, which has the drivers for the newest hardware that will only support Lion. You can see the models supported by the wrapper installer .pkg by taking a look at the top of the .dist files for each update."

Wagedu got it spot on there... Good find... Yeah it's te generic installer for most macs... The new MacBook airs seem to download the files just fine in boot camp where as we others cannot...

    new user here

I have done with burn window software update step, access to boot camp again, it still did not allow me me tick install window 7, kindly advice?

How do we bypass download window software step so that we can direct proceed with install window at the first time?

I had the same problem. It sat for an hour at about 30% complete. I tried plugging in a DVD drive. As soon as I inserted a blank disk it suddenly sprang to life and started writing to the disk. So perhaps that's what it was waiting for all along. Can't wait until I get Windows installed, so I enjoy this Apple hardware with a proper OS installed .

  • mattjewell Level 1 Level 1

After downloading BootCampESD.pkg do I burn it to a disc? or how do I install the drivers for windows?

  • YamBam Level 1 Level 1

Install the package and as I said above you will find the drivers /library/application support/bootcamp/ then you can stick them on a cd, USB drive, hdd... Anything you want...

I apologize for this rookie question, but windows is not my native OS.  I downloaded the package and found it where you mentioned in the library.  I then put it on a flash drive and installed windows 7.  Now that windows 7 is a go, I can pull up the flash drive and see the windows support file, do I need to open it with a certain application in order to feed it into the system? Or do I just place it in a folder in windows somewhere?  Again, I apologize for the rookie question,

    Thanks

    Aaron
