First of all, if you are already on Lion there is no downside to upgrading to ML as it is better in every way.
well, maybe I'll give it a try. I suppose I can try to downgrade if I decide it isn't working. I still have the Lion installer somewhere. I don't have the latest of the latest macs so I understand there are programs within ML that won't work. Thanks for the encouragement. I have heard here and there about good and bad things. In fact I think when I looked up ML at the APP store, I read a lot of bad comments there which kind of turned me off to the upgrade.
So what about windowmizer? will it work with ML or do I have to tweak something to get it to work.
Often the explanations are more than I want to deal with. Seems like some Geeks just do not speak the same English that I do. I get very frustrated.
I have a couple of major gripes with L and ML that keep me on SL. They are easy of use issues as exemplified by the fact that I still use iPhoto 6, which is better than any of the subsequent versions. If you have an old system disk you can install or drag and drop iPhoto 6 into your current system.
It has been so long since iphone 6 I can't remember if I liked it better or not. I know that on iphoto 9.42 I am managing but not particularly happy. You might say I've gotten used to it. What if I drag Iphoto 6 into my system, will I still need to keep and use version 9.x to open the later libraries?
You can not downgrade your Library though, so you will have to start again.
Meaning? Take all photos and add them to 6? What about streaming? Does 6 do that? Although I find streaming rather slow, I do like it when it works.
Somewhere on one of my back up drives from previous computers I probaby have a lot of iphoto libraries with pictrues I'd like to see, but if I replace the current library with those, it replaces my current pictures. It get's very confusing for me. What I hoped to do is take all my pictures and put them somewhere else-flash drive, cd, etc. but it takes so much time and energy I have yet to really do it. I figure someday I'll lose a lot of treasured pictures because I haven't stored them. I started to move them and know I can't find the flash drive I was using-- another problem with small items.
Best not to upgrade in the first place. I always test a new version of anything before upgrading as there is currently a race to the bottom, the lowest common denominator, dumb and dumbest.
I like to test too, but not always possible. Some programs are not always compatible that I liked before and so I find I HAVE to upgrade if I Want to keep up. I suppose if I get a bigger hard drive I could put one system on its own partition, but I'm kind of burned out with all this lately.
My gripes with ML might sound trivial but if you work 40+ hours a week on a computer they are important. The first is the rubber bounce at the end of a scroll action. You can trun it off in the finder but not in Safari (which I want to continue using).
I am not sure what you mean by rubber bounce at the end of a scroll action. I know that there were some things I have not liked since two or three systems ago, so I found this app called liontweaks.app and there is a new one for ML that has allowed me to use older items that were taken away. for example is wider scroll bars.-Also I like to colorize the icons in the side bar although it goes away if I have to restart, but just refreshing the finder brings back the color.
By far and away the biggest problem is that there is no keyboard shortcut for find-by-file-name, and you have to navigate a dropdown menu. This shortcut disappeared in the transition from 9.2 to 10.0 and did not come back till 10.4. Then in the transition from 10.6 to 10.7 it went away again. Will they ever learn?
I really wonder what Apple techs are thinking these days. It seems like they love to throw away the baby with the bathwater. I too am upset how difficult it is when I want to find something. I have to use command+F to bring up a new window and put in the item I want to find. Seems time consuming. I also have an app called easyfind but that too takes time.
And they might also stop spotlight from returning hits to email messages. I have never yet performed a finder search when I was looking for the content of an email! How dumb is that?
and in spotlight it used to be so easy to find where the document was located. For a long time until recently Didn't know that you can find a document by scrolling down and pressing the command key while viewing the document in spotlight... but by then while scrooking I usually get my curser off track and have to find the document again, and even so it doesn't give the location right away. you have to scroll down and wait for it to appear. What a pain. Yes what were they thinking?
